Battle For Middle Earth 2 makes a surprisingly bold decision for a Lord of the Rings game:

It has Tom Bombadil.

As a playable unit.

And he does sing. Oh, boy does he sing. Every time you give him an order.

Tom Bombadil is cut from almost every single adaptation of Lord of the Rings, but the devs decided this ridiculous man belonged in their serious wargame, and I respect them for that.

I love the wildly random levels of importance to the missions in BFME 2 evil campaign. Like, one mission, you're helping GoRkiL tHe gObLiN kInG get revenge on the Hobbits for turning his Grandfather's head into the first golf ball. Cause, he's mad. Like, it helps no one, and he was already on your side, could have come back later. Then, a few missions later, you're helping DROGOTH THE DRAGON LORD defend his home and many violent children from Elves, so that you may convince him to fight against all that is right and good in the world.
