I wish black men would support one another the way black women have come together to support other black women. Not that it can't be done, I'm just not sure there's a means by which to enable such a network.
With all of the positive messaging that has seen and celebrated black women (Black girls ROCK, Black girl magic, etc) there is very little that embraces the struggle of black men. And while I love the positivity (long overdue) an adoration being doled out to my sisters it always makes me ponder why or even if there is the awareness of the exclusion of brothers, both young and old?
We are driving home that black girls of all ages are great and achieving excellence, while encouraging our daughters to aspire to whatever their imagination creates while failing to provide any sort of encouragement to our sons. How have we allowed ourselves to be so divided?
