and yet.

and yet she finds herself talking to romanoff, sharing dry remarks about their coworkers' intelligence, offering tips about the cafeteria food, sparring and laughing and working side by side.

it's nice. easy.

it doesn't hurt.

nat (when did she go from romanoff to nat? maria isn't sure) never, ever hurts her, treats her like she's her best friend, like she's someone she loves.

maria's never really known that before.

neither has nat.

they could get used to it.
