Legacies: S2E5
Alright, folks, let’s get one thing claro: I’ve been thirsting for Hope and Lizzie to be besties since the pilot when Lizzie called homegirl “Despair”. This line cemented Lizzie’s place in my heart as HBIC (Hope stans don’t @ me). Lizzie takes no prisoners. Never, not ever. And she absolutely proved that by calling Hope out on her savior complex/martyr syndrome. Lizzie has always been very upfront about who she is and want she wants. Yes, she can be very rough around the edges. But she’s bold and unapologetic. She’s also one of the rare characters that we’re shown is actually learning from her experiences. Within individual episodes (outsmarting Jinn-i in season 1) and also across larger arcs (her experiences with Jinn-i prepared her to stand up to the Keeper). Compare that to Hope who is literally willing to use the same asinine tactic (sacrificing herself) to try and solve a problem.
Speaking of fun buddy cop interactions, I am so, so here for Sebastian/MG (SebG?) tomfoolery. Lizzie thinks Sebastian is this cool, Rico Suave type vampire but me thinks, deep down, he’s a dork. Seeing how easily Kaleb played him, what if he’s less of the bloodthirsty, “I hunt victims for sport old chap,” and more of the charming, womanizing grifter who got desiccated because he lost a bet or something. Needless to say, I need more. More SebG. More Hizzie. These new team-ups were so refreshing because it took characters out of their comfort zones. Forced them to think outside their, admittedly, small boxes. Hope thinks death (hers) and sacrifice (hers) are the only way to keep her loved ones safe. Lizzie shot an arrow straight through that. Literally. MG thinks compromising his morals to get to Lizzie is OK. Kaleb [INSERT SURNAME HERE] is ready to burn that foul lie to the ground. Slow clap for friends, ya’ll. They literally out here saving lives.
You know who needs some life saving? Certainly not Mr. Waithe, because, let me tell you, mans hasn’t got much of a life so far. I’ll take Rafael’s character development (are he and Jed biffies now? How are the other wolves responding to an alpha who spent the summer in the doghouse?) over Hafael. Hands down. Besides his loyalty to Landon and his temper (which, grand scheme of things: not that bad--then again we wouldn’t know when mans gets less than five minutes of screen time), we know next to nothing abut him. Come through with that back story for your boy, Plec.
Nobody wants to be second best, least of all, Josie. I’m willing to bet that she seeks out Freya for help on how to use black magic to restore her everyone’s memories of Hope. Endgame? Probably Landon. Maybe Josie wants to see who he chooses when the board's even?
So what’s happening here with Vardouchemus and Clarke? Are they the same person? Not going to lie. I’m struggling to care. They’re both so monologuey that I find it hard to care what they’re up to. Then again, Malivore hasn’t really struck the level of fear and concern in me that a season villain should. It’s one thing if Clark/Vardouchemus were kidnapping students and feeding them to the pit; or if Malivore was possessing Landon and using him as a sleeper agent. The stakes would be higher. I’d be more invested. But they’re not and I’m not.
