for one reason or another his place doesn’t have central air so she blithely suggests he stay for the weekend (or for however long it takes for the weather to break which could be goodness knows how long) and he’s standing in her doorway with his little duffel bag, weight shifting from one foot to the other, suddenly scared as shit that she’s going to get sick of him that she’s going to realize what a stupid brute he is and all he’s going to do is track metaphorical mud into her cool, clean, uncluttered space but her kitchen is a blessed 72 degrees and he chugs a glass of ice water at her sink and she looks so good in her breezy blouse and linen pants he’d kind of like to just ask her to bed, stay there all weekend long but he’s trying to be on his best behavior so they walk to the farmers’ market and he sneaks away to buy her a bouquet of flowers which only wilt a little by the time they get them home.

and they go to the movies as much for the cool shade of the theatre as the film itself and connie’s trailing her fingertips up and down his forearm and letting her hand rest on the swell of his thigh where his shorts end and he should have worn jeans he’s so hard he’s gonna lose his fucking mind but he’s being *good* and afterward they go for an early drink somewhere and all it takes is the tip of her sandaled foot pressed to the arch of his own for him to stand up and excuse himself to the bathroom to splash water in his face and give himself a talking-to in the mirror you’re not an animal jesus christ get it together you are a *gentleman* and they get back home and connie suggests they spend some time at the rooftop pool of her apartment complex and by now huddy’s white-knuckling it but he agrees and he endures the sight of her in her swimsuit and dutifully sprays sunscreen across her back and she suns herself while he stays mostly in the water, seriously thinking about drowning himself and then when she decides she’s ready to go back he follows her and the cold air in her apartment hits him like a slap in the face and she got a little red in the shoulders and in the apples of her cheeks and he cant take it any more he just can’t and he falls to his knees on her living room rug and eats her out on the couch the end 😇
