Another nod to Henry Owings of Chunklet Industries. I saw that he’d bought the new Teenage Stride cassette on Unblinking Ear Records (New York). So, I gave that a listen, and then clicked over to the “merch” section (as we are all wont to do). I began listening to this Big Quiet 7″. “Maura and Dana” immediately hooked me.
This 7″ was mixed by none other than Mitch Easter (Let’s Active) who produced some of my favorite albums by R.E.M. and Game Theory. While Big Quiet are decidely power pop, I can hear some of the hooks associated with both Let’s Active and Game Theory. Occassionally a guitar strum will recall The Wedding Present.
Unblinking Ear Records has a pretty cool mixtape with Honey Radar (among many other great bands) on it.
