Bigfoots: arguing

According to Mormon folklore, early Latter Day Saints leader David Wyman Patten (November 14, 1799 – October 25, 1838) met a tall, hairy, dark-skinned man in Paris, Tennessee, who said that he was the Biblical Cain.  As related by Abraham O. Smoot after Patten's death, Patten says that the man that called himself Cain,vthat he had been made immortal by God as punishment for killing his brother, and that he now wandered the Earth attempting to destroy men’s souls.

Amusingly, this account was later used as evidence in the 1980s to explain away Bigfoot sights in South Weber, Utah. Personally I think it makes for a better story for early pioneers to stumble across cryptids and assume that they’re Biblical figures (because that’s the frame of reference they’d use for seeing something extraordinary), rather than vice versa, but that’s just me.
