Other people. The saying goes, “you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” You need to be very conscious and aware of this fact. Look at the five people that you spend the most time with. Who are they as people? Do they inspire you? Are they living their life the way that you want to live yours? Do they have character traits that you admire?
Be very honest with yourself, because when you take a closer look, you may realize that you are judging parts of yourself. Once you have evaluated these people, decide how much time you actually want to spend with them. Decide if it is wise to let them into your life and ultimately influence you. Manage your surroundings and place value on your time.
The second thing I want to point out, is that sometimes, it can be hard to find people who are inspiring in real life, people that motivate you. So what you need to do is seek them out in different ways. Find their messages in books, videos, blogs, art and other forms of self-expression. Surround yourself with the wisdom and work of the people that you admire. It is up to you to find your own mentors.
Everyday I dedicate an hour to listening to the positive, motivational material of others. So that I can remember that I am not alone, and so that I am reminded about who I want to become.
Don’t squander your time on people and things that in the end don’t improve you. Value yourself, take control, and create an environment that will encourage you to flourish.
