There aren't many men I can say this about. I would have let him up me whether towards the end of his life...

...or when he was much younger. Or anywhere in between.

Nice eyes and a beautiful smile. I would have loved to nibble that beard.

Clean-shaven, with glasses just for an extra sexual attractiveness.

Glasses and a beret. Now come on... What are you trying to do to me, Bill?

As close, I think, as I will ever come to posting my idea of the perfect man (since my Brian won't let me post any pictures of him). Just missing a pipe or cigar wedged in the side of his mouth.

Walter Frederick George Williams- 1928-2018

Bill Maynard was, to my mind, one of Britain's best comedic actors. A bit of a heartthrob, apparently, during his 1950's TV days (Great Scott... It's Maynard." Well before my time, by the way.

In any case, he just got better as he got older. From the "Carry On" series of films in the 1960's and 1970's...

To the "Oh, No... It\s Selwyn Froggitt" comedy series in the mid 1970's

To my personal favourite comedy series of his, playing Mr Moffat in "The Gaffer" (1980-1982". A short-lived show, but it showed off how good he looked with a grey beard.

I would tune in to anything that had him in it, good or bad.

Of course, when I met Brian, who bears a remarkable resemblance to him, I don't think there was going to be any argument.

#a rare un that I have to go searching instead of just reblogging someone else's work #jim dale #bill maynard #arthur lowe #one can be forgiven for thinking of this as an extended ep of dad's army #what with the presence of arthur lowe #and the antics feel pretty similar as well #but there is certainly a milliganesque willingness to wreck the nostalgic glow with a radical tone shift now and again #and in this it feels very MASHlike #with genuine tragedy and horror mixed in with slapstick #and that one character that is written with a well of jokes equal to groucho marx's and no compunction about using them constantly #in every situation no matter how inappropriate #and the sense of exhaustion you feel sometimes with that kind of person...#the kind that needs to continuously perform for you approval #anyway...
