pre-top trans men get yourself some trans tape noooowwww, especially my fellow aussies as its getting hotter and i dont want yall melting this summer. i got mine from an aussie trans run company called sock draw heros (its based near oxford street in sydney,,, bc ofcourse it is) and it’s great. i am currently able to sit in bed shirtless with little to no dysphoria and stay relatively cool despite using a fuzzy ass wheighted blanket every night. it also survives the shower so you can wear it for multiple days and not smell like complete ass also it can be used in combination with a binder if you think you need it, just remember to be careful guys and practice binding safety
Trying binding with medical tape and sports bras (I'm really fucking unlucky with my chest size) since my parents won't let me get a binder. I hope this helps me. I feel a bit smaller with just the tape on, but I gotta wait for the sports bras to get out of the wash

Binding with KT tape
(See my post about binding with medical tape for my first experience with binding with tape)
Once i knew what it was like to tape, i asked for the Transtape again, and mom said okay, but ended up getting me KT tape because its cheaper per inch.
The KT tape was essentially too tiny. If you are closer to an A cup or a smaller B, it may work for you but if you are C or more, dont waste your money. I ended up using about 3/4 of a roll just trying to cover everything, my goal was to be able to swim topless at the pool in my friends backyard, i had 2 days until then.
I taped as i had before (following youtube tutorials and not pulling too hard or pulling tape past the armpit) and showered to test if it would hold up in the pool. It did with minor peeling.
I kept that tape on until i went to swim, making it two night that i had the tape on. I had no issues with breathing or pain from sleeping with it on (though looking back i WOULD NOT recommend doing this) and when i went swimming it was so liberating and validating? It held up in the pool for id say about 2 hours or a little less. Keep in mind that is the tape after a shower and two nights.
Over all it was amazing and im definitely doing this the next time im going swimming, just a different tape (I’m gonna get actual transtape soon).
I did notice however, near the third day the edges of the tape started itching and becoming uncomfortable. Like really itching, not enough for me to take the tape off but enough it annoyed me.
As soon as i got out of the pool i showered and took the tape off, it basically fell off but i didnt care, it had served its purpose and i was comfortable.
About 2 hours later i went home and actually took a look at my chest, over all i had some red marks from it pulling my chest back and i had some bumps around where the edges of the tape were. Other than that it was fine.
Pros of kt tape was: it held up better than the medical tape for sure. It looked decent, not good (i needed to use waaay to many strips) but still decent. The sensation of cloth against your chest, your back, just cloth against skin, and no chest in the way, is just incredible. Its so liberating and you get a rush of euphoria. And oh my god swimming shirtless, it was INCREDIBLE.
Cons: more expensive and unless you have an itty bitty chest, youre gonna need to use way too much, not worth the price for my size. It did cause irritation to my skin after a couple days, looking back id say you shouldnt wear it for more than one day (though i doubt I’ll follow my own rules in the future..)
Overall, its a reasonable option for people with smaller chests, sorry to my fellow larger sized bros :( Just listen to your body and dont brush off signs you need a break, if its uncomfortable, hop in the shower and TAKE IT OFF, use oil to loosen the adhesive and do it slowly, hot water works best. Be careful out there dudes. I wish you all luck in your transitions.
lowkey did a review of transtape check it out
Binding with medical tape
I will be writing long posts because i want to cover everything I’ve experienced accurately.
I have binded with tape twice, using two different tapes, I will make a follow up post to cover my other experience. It got to summer and i really wanted to wear tank tops without showing my binder, as well as swim topless. I saw cosplayers doing open chest binding and it looked incredible to me as i have major chest dysphoria, so i looked into it, and asked mom to get me some tape. I originally asked for the Official Transtape because .. thats what it was made for. She replied its too expensive and opted to get me some regular old medical tape and bandages.
I do not recommend using medical tape, or at least the clear type like i had. It didnt stick and it looked really bad. Plus i had to use A LOT, nearly a whole roll. (For reference am a C to D cup last time I checked)
I followed youtube tutorials and taped up all the stuff on my chest (do not pull tape past your armpit, it will restrict your breathing!) and ended up with a semi flat chest, it didnt look pretty and it wasnt really comfortable but putting on a tank top for the first time and seeing nothing when you look down is INCREDIBLE.
I only wore the medical tape for about 4-5 hours. I used oil to remove the tape and did it slowly while in the shower. I cant recommend this for anyone who has a larger chest or wants a visually appealing chest.
Complaints about this: It hurt to take off, like a lot. I used a lot of oil and didnt do it as slowly as i shouldve but once it was off, my chest was speckled with red marks and bumps. I had some areas with full outlines of the tape that was there, it itched a bit but after about a day of putting lotion on it, the major marks went away. I had red marks scattered on my chest for about 4 days after however, not painful but definitely there. One thing that seems obvious in hindsight but did suprise me, i got a lot new stretch marks. I didnt have many before, only like 1-2, but after binding with the tape, i noticed a few more had appeared and they were much more visible; just something to mention.
Pros: it felt amazing. I could bind without worry. I have breathing issues so binding with my normal binder is a trade off with being comfortable in my skin or being comfortable with my air intake (i have the correct size binder and it is stretched out slightly, i just have legitimate breathing issues.) (Even if you have great lungs, NEVER BIND WITH A BINDER THAT IS TOO SMALL) Another pro, it was inexpensive and seems like a great option for people with very small chests.
Overall, if you are on a budget and have a small chest (small B or smaller) this seems like a decent option, i cannot tell you the health effects because i am not educated on the matter but these are my personal experiences. I wish you all luck in your transitions.
