Fluffy slice of life with Joly and Lesgle.
Background JBM, but OTP is Joly/magnets.
I somehow missed this when it first posted-- a delightful rainy-day story, pure perfect Bini fluff:D Very recommended !
Domestic aspects of the revolution?? Pls explain this seems interesting
Oh geez let’s see if I can keep this brief and readable! I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT, surprising nobody(also I *know* there are other people with comments to make on this around, maybe someone will add on?)!! Bear with me, Nonny, I swear I work my way around back to Joly by the end! Prepare for XTREEEEME simplifications of incredibly complex social issues of the day!

what do the poly squad sing for karaoke? :3
J/M/B, yeah?:D Under the Unfortunate Rule of Karaoke that no one really gets exactly the song they’d pick themselves:
All three of them- We’re All In This Together, High School Musical (it’s their drunk dance routine that really Makes it) or Birdhouse In Your Soul (when they get to make their own playlist, they like showing off how well they can do “I’ve Decided To Marry You”, from A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, together, but Alas Karaoke Bars)
Musichetta on her own goes for Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights or “anything from a musical based on a book” , if she can’t find that one.
Joly on his own usually goes for The Heart Song (”Joly you know those aren’t the real lyrics right” “THEY’RE THE ONES I KNOW BLAME SCHOOL”) because The Lumineers’ Hey Ho is usually on the list
Bossuet does Eliza Doolittle’s Pack Up if it’s an option, and a very intentionally hammy (and yet Still Hot, in the opinion of Certain Members of the Audience) version of Take Me Home Tonight if it’s not
(a close runner up for all of them is “any song Weird Al covered” , so they can sing the Weird Al version)
Gems AU:pt 3: The Oysters At Breakfast Club
Bossuet is Rhyolite:
a green volcanic rock closely related to hematite. Perspective, humor, endurance, balance in turmoil
Joly is Chrysoprase
a bright green stone, slightly magnetic; healing, joy , hope, and loyalty in personal relationships
Grantaire is Carnelian:
a reddish quartz often associated with Friendship and Idealism (a bit ironically, here) and with the potential to dramatically improve under fire.
(And Joly and Bossuet fuse to be Amazonite:
a sort of feldspar, a mineral used to improve the endurance and finish of..just about everything. Calm in tense situations, patient communication of higher ideals , resistance to social pressure , and the willingness to see things from a partner’s point of view and work closely together.)
Les Mis 4.12.2
It's Preliminary Gayeties day.
My heart is breaking already. Like barricade day all over again.
Laigle really likes his history info dumps. I count at least 3--including every time we get him quasi-monologuing on page. First it was about historic legal terms when we met the group; here he's talking about the neighborhood's bygone cloisters; we'll also get some more on June 6 during Laigle & Combeferre's Fun Facts About Artillery interlude.
[If I ever wrote modern AUs, that conversation would become a science-and-history podcast run by the two of them.]
Hugo describes Navet as "executing a prolonged scrape of his foot behind him, which is the most respectful of all possible salutes, he took his departure." I've always taken this as some gamin gesture, but it struck me this time that he's maybe meant to be limping. That delivering the message despite physical difficulty is this "most respectful of salutes." Thoughts?
Also, I feel like somewhere we have a list of all the French puns in this chapter.
pilf i've been looking for sources to reference on 'bini' for a paper i'm writing about faustus, and the only thing i've been able to find is the quote from the brick or people talking about the quote from the brick D: do you know where i'd be able to find like a direct source talking about the bini construction?
I’m not sure exactly what you mean--maybe something like these writeups on the origins of the term by Barricadeur?Frères ChapeauxJoly, Bossuet, and Religious OrdersThey’re still framed in reference to Les Mis and Joly and Legle, but they do have a lot of history and talk about the religious origins of the term? They’re the best discussions of it I know, so I hope they help!
