So... my bioactive ball python enclosures are done.
And a shot of both :)
Cockroaches can sucessfully cohabitat with springtails, isopods, and even millipedes!
Thank you! I figured at least the first two were fine (they seem to be fine in bioactives for most animals, even hermit crabs), but I didn’t know about millipedes, that’s neat!
Enclosure 👏 tour 👏
Vaermina’s is sort of done too. I don’t like it as much as the other one, but I can’t keep messing with it tonight. It’ll do for now :)
i don't know much about plant care but i'm p sure if you're doing bioactive vivs then u need UV light, even if the reptile/amphibian/whatever doesn't need UV bc plants need it.... but i might be wrong
I’ve always read full spectrum light for the plants, not UVB. But I’m not sure, so I’m gonna do some more reading tonight & tomorrow! I’ll post what I end up finding out, so if you are interested, I’ll hopefully have more info in the next couple days. :)
I did A Thing! Bindi’s cage is now naturalistic...bio-active status pending until I can get clean up crew ordered. But I was tired of watching her try to dig to nowhere, and tired of telling myself that I’d wait until I could buy everything I wanted for it.
I’m not really entirely happy with it yet for that reason. I still want to get some cork bark or rounds for a hide, some other wood pieces & some rocks, more leaf litter (on its way), clean up crew, and I want to replace the annoying CHE lamp stand with a radiant heat panel. Most of that is waiting until I see if I can get a refund on a theater membership thing I got at the beginning of the year. Fingers crossed on that!
For now, she has what’s shown in the picture, and will be keeping her igloo, though she’s never used it much. Curious to see where she’ll decide to hide now that she doesn’t have a liner to dig under. XD I tried to give some cover with the fake plants, and she has her PVC pipe still too. I have sphagnum moss, orchard grass hay, and some leaves scattered on top of the substrate, we’ll see if she does anything with those.
I have her in her hide in one of the crates for now - the top soil had a bit of a funky smell to it, so I’m leaving the cage open to air out for a few more hours, then I’ll try putting her in & see what happens. If she seems extremely distressed or bothered, I’ll keep her in one of the emergency totes until tomorrow, then try again.
