#bioactive plants

I don’t know what kind of viv you’re doing but there are some cheap LED daylight bulbs at Lowe’s that run for about $9. they’re probably the best lights I have, even beating Arcadia Jungle Dawn, and they come in packs of 6 bulbs. My plants have grown amazingly and it’s only been 3 months since I set it up. The brand I’m using is Utilitech Daylight LED in 60w.

Oh cool, thank you! That sounds way cheaper than some of the other options I was thinking of looking at (like Arcadia, lol). I’ll check it out! :)

i don't know much about plant care but i'm p sure if you're doing bioactive vivs then u need UV light, even if the reptile/amphibian/whatever doesn't need UV bc plants need it.... but i might be wrong

I’ve always read full spectrum light for the plants, not UVB. But I’m not sure, so I’m gonna do some more reading tonight & tomorrow! I’ll post what I end up finding out, so if you are interested, I’ll hopefully have more info in the next couple days. :)

Can plants be planted directly in the upper layer in a bioactive substrate or do they get planted in the drainage layer?

I haven’t actually planted any real plants in bioactive yet (Charis & Bindi both have fake ones - I want to add real ones to Bindi’s this winter), but I’m pretty sure they get planted in the upper layer!
