ElleBee's Bioshock 1 & 2 Movie Lineup!
So we've seen most everything being plastered onto the movie screen nowadays. Films based on comics, films based on novels, films based on a true story, films based on a novel based on a true story. Hollywood is constantly adapting something into a movie, but what we in the gaming world need are more movies based on video games. And I mean GOOD movies based on video games (sorry Uwe Boll, I know you tried).
Now there are some good video game movie adaptations out there (i.e. Resident Evil, Doom, Prince of Persia, Silent Hill), but for me, there just isn't enough. Sure, there's always the chance that some actor or director is going to completely violate an amazing storyline or a character, but that's a risk I think we're all willing to take.
There's been talk for years of a Bioshock film or films, and it seems that the people involved have come to a halting point because of costs and ratings. However, I still think it's pretty important to speculate on who would be the best actors and actresses for the roles. This is my lineup, love it or hate it.
Ellebees's Bioshock Lineup:
Jack (Josh Hartnett): Andrew Ryan’s illegitimate son with Jasmine Jolene. Technically, Jack is around 23 years old in the game. Jack has no dialogue throughout the entire ordeal, but I think it's safe to say that in the movie adaptation, he would have to.
Andrew Ryan (Danny Huston): The delusional founder of Rapture and father of Jack.
Atlas/Frank Fontaine (Gerard Butler): The sneaky, sadistic creator of Fontaine Futuristics and Andrew Ryan's nemesis.
Brigid Tenenbaum (Diane Kruger): Scientist who originally discovered what ADAM could do and caretaker of the little sisters.
Yi Suchong (B.D. Wong): Scientist who helped to create the Big Daddies and helped experiment with ADAM.
Dr. Sofia Lamb (Cate Blanchett): Psychiatrist for Rapture and the new leader of Rapture in Bioshock 2.
Sander Cohen (Willem Dafoe): Main composer in Rapture who eventually becomes a murderous psychopath.
Dr. J. S. Steinman (Crispin Glover): Plastic surgeon of Rapture who eventually mutilates and deforms his patients.
Bill McDonagh (Jason Statham): Bill was the main contractor for Rapture and Andrew Ryan's best friend. He's not a huge character in the games, but he is the protagonist of the novel/prequel, Bioshock: Rapture. I feel he's worth mentioning because with films, there's almost always a prequel and he's crucial to the story. I also feel I have to mention that while Jason Statham isn't my favorite actor, I feel like he could play this role well and with his already cockney accent, he wouldn't need any training.
There are other characters that I just didn't feel I could size up as far as what actors could play them. Peach Wilkins, Julie Langford, Dianne McClintock, Gilbert Alexander, and Sullivan just to name a few.
Well then, I suppose this is where I come in and try to pick some actors/actresses for those particular characters.
Here goes:
Julie Langford (Anna Torv) - Torv is already HUGE in the Sci-Fi genre, so I feel this role wouldn't be a stretch for her, not to mention she looks the part.
Peace Wilkins (Robin Williams) - The faces look too similar to me to not put these two together. Yeah, not a huge role but Robin Williams isn't ALL comedy and I think he'd fit this character well.
Dianne McClintock (Cathy Moriarty) - I think the hair and skin tone seem similar. Not enough visual info to go on but this could possible work.
Anyways, that's just the few I could come up with.
I want to thank Ellebee for her contribution and I look forward to future ones! This looks like it would be one hell of a movie! Not just because of the actors but also due to the plot, the scenario, and the location of everything!
