Check out all of these wonderful blogs on Bipolar Disorder!
Diet is more than a meal.
Believe it or not, healthy eating is a great way to increase your mood. I know it sounds stupid, but try it! Even if you don't eat the healthiest food like salad on a daily or perhaps fruit salad with poultry for dinner every day you'll see plenty of the nutrients you need, but that isn't the most important part.
To clarify, this isn't a "Weight Lose" kind of deal, not an advertisement of sorts, not even a program, but some of us get irritable when we're hungry, and sometimes takes form in the Bipolar.
So, what can we eat? What is the best choice? How much do we eat?
Well, friend, that is your choice. From my experiences things like fruits will make you feel happier in comparison to without some, proteins have made me more motivated, like nuts and meats, vegetables seem to help with calming, just as an all-around.
Now don't base yourself to the standard of "2,000 calories a day" model, because it is a model, and you differ. Eat until your full, have a meal, yes, it would be better than a bag of Doritos, no matter how tasty that sounds, but it may leave you feeling a bit off. Maybe a sandwich with some, or anything. The main solution is to be full from your meal, and content with it. What's the point of eating if it isn't enjoyable? We're not trying to survive here, if you have a Tumblr, you most likely are doing pretty well.
For an example, there are grapes in my kitchen, on a isle centerpiece and I'll always grab a few on my way by, otherwise I'd forget they're there. there are also some Chips Ohoy cookies, I usually have a few per day, nothing too filling. I'll cook up something quick, like Mac 'n' Cheese, which I find great with frozen pees, or make a sandwich with some chips and go along my day. Nothing complicated.
I would suggest to stride away from an overwhelming amount of processed foods, mainly ones that are full of chemicals and usually greasy. As fun as those foods are, they're, in my opinion, for occasion. They usually leave me in a sadder mood anyhow.
Do not take this as a "your food dominates your mood", as I fear I had wrote it as so, but it's little things I've picked up. No, it will not make you super silly if you eat a melon, but I tend to feel more optimistic, although only a slight amount, it is something that helps. In a way it drives me to see more on the bright side and not so easy to get down.
If your favorite pet just died, or you lost some jewelry, eating a carrot and eating some peanuts won't make you feel better immediately or extremely potently, but it will help your recovery in the long run.
