The glowing flower spikes of Kniphofia 'Shining Sceptre' (red-hot poker, torchlily) are part of this herbaceous perennial planting. These plants thrive in sandy soil enriched with humus. The best location is in full sun and in milder places the plant will remain evergreen. In some regions of the world the flowers attract nectar-feeding birds including hummingbirds.
