"average bisexual cheats on their partners within every monogamous relationship" factoid actually just a statistical error. average bisexual is just like every other sexual identity and not more likely than a straight or gay person to cheat on their partner within a monogamous relationship. Lord Byron, who lives in victorian* england & cheats on 10,000 partners each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

No doubt it's going to be an unpopular opinion but just a reminder that there are plenty of stereotypes around bi people and our promiscuity/hypersexuality, so reducing a newly out bi person to looking at people's asses, beast comments and now kink with no actual relationship development feeds into that stereotype
It’s so crazy to me how even in shows that are supposed to be progressive and queer focused, bisexuality is so misunderstood and misrepresented. I’ve been watching Batwoman with my boyfriend, and the way they handle bisexuality in the show is quite frankly, a fucking travesty.
the show centers on a sapphic couple who have been broken up for a few years, and one of the women (a bisexual) is now in a relationship with a man. Her whole identity is portrayed as if she’s betrayed her lesbian ex girlfriend by being with a man (despite the fact that they’ve been broken up for years) and is seen as an obstacle that needs to be overcome.
The show also passingly conflates bisexuality with polyamory as if this isn’t one of the biggest negative stereotypes that affects the bisexual community.
this sort of treatment happens a considerable amount with queer focused shows and movies, another one of which is can think of is Orange is the Black, in which in the main character, Piper, is bisexual. Pipers bisexuality is a huge part of the storyline, but she is only outrightly labeled as bisexual a handful of times throughout the entire show, and when she IS labeled bisexual it’s accompanied with the description of shallow.
Bisexual representation is abysmally handled in queer media, and I need writers to start actually researching what it means to have a bisexual character, and not simply fall into the dozens of negative stereotypes that are out there about us.
Ultimately, I like many things, so I’m bound to get a lot of points. I mean, who doesn’t like lemon bars, and leather jackets and denim jackets and hoodies? If you’re like me and just love so many things, you’re bound to fit some stereotypes

I think I finally got to the bottom of why my feelings towards the popular positive bi stereotypes, at least what’s popular online, are... iffy, at best. Disclaimer: if you’re bi and are really into lemon bars/cuffing your jeans/the song Sweater Weather/etc., good on you, keep doing what you’re doing- there’s nothing wrong with associating things you like with your sexuality. Where I do take issue with such stereotypes, however, is that they feel so artificial and grounded in modern online spaces. There’s nothing inherently bisexual about lemon bars, for instance. Why is liking them considered a bi stereotype? Because someone online said that and others must have agreed at some point, I suppose.
The thing is, such stereotypes aren’t reflective of the material reality of bisexuality and its intertwined history with gay and lesbian culture. Much of our history and many of our physical spaces have long been shared, and people online (especially younger people) need to understand that. Many of the stereotypes often associated with gay men, such as the image of a flamboyant and/or effeminate man, can be and have been associated with bisexual men too. Same goes for both lesbians and bi women adopting styles of dress and behavior regarded as more butch. These stereotypes are two of many that tell a much more important story than silly trivial things like how you wear your jeans; they come from a place of existing in a way that opposes the status quo and owning that. It’s literally a visible way of saying “we’re here, we’re queer, get used to it!” And that’s something that I, as a bisexual man, love. That history is a beautiful thing- something, in my opinion, modern/younger bisexuals should better embrace.
All I’m trying to say is y’all can have your lemon bars. I just want to be bi, fly, and proud of the ways in which I stand out in this heteronormative world.
