A few weeks ago, someone close to me told me that they "liked who I was so much better, that I was a better person back when I was in high school".  This bugged me for a while, but now, this is what I realize:

I am not the same person I was all those years ago.

I've gone to new places, met new people, explored new things. 

I've been lonely, and I've found my "tribe".  I've made a lot of progress in figuring out what, specifically, I want to do with my life.

I've cheated death.  And I think I came out a better, kinder person because of it.

I've hit what, for me, was rock bottom, and I've clawed my way back to the surface.  I've finally learned how to ask for help when I need it, although sometimes I still wait a bit too long before asking.  But I ask now.

I've learned to share my life with people, and I've formed some of the best friendships of my life.

So, you know what?  I'm not the person I was back in high school.  But I'm also not that scared, terrified little girl anymore, so desperate for your approval.  I've learned to begin to love myself.  And that is an improvement.
