I haven't been on Tumblr in a while, by a while I mean a good 3 years or so, but I have a huge rant and I think it's important for people to realise that your job can have red flags and it can do some real damage to your mental health.
I joined the company around 2 years ago and it was my first career job. For about a year, I loved my job. I hated the thought of leaving it, I loved the people that worked there. There were a few stressful moments here and there but that's pretty standard. I got really good training and I loved helping others.
It became apparent that we needed more members of our team. Our team was very small and we had a lot of clients, work was piling up on us. They started hiring people and that was great.
Except, we all noticed that the training was getting worse. When I joined, I probably spent 2 months training and I picked it up so quickly, as did the other person that joined. When the next person joined they had about a month's worth of training. When the next person joined, it was very little. 3 people joined, none of them knew how to code, were giving no training by our managers. Our managers got us to show them what we do and we offered help whenever they were stuck.
Covid happened and we all had to work from home. In the office whenever we needed help we could just grab someone or quickly as our manager. Not long after we started working from home, the company announced that we could only ask for help twice a day at specific times because our manager was busy. This was then changed briefly to once a day but it's now back to twice.
Our manager then announced that they weren't our manager anymore. We got told that another person in the company would be our new manager. This is why it was a problem:
1. This guy has no technical knowledge. We gave him the benefit of a doubt and thought he might learn, but we realised quickly when they hired 2 more people that he knew very little and was misleading the newbies.
2. He was so incredibly mean to some of our colleagues. We noticed it a little in the office, he really doesn't like one of them and we were sure why. There was another, who was quite slow but very intelligent. We will call this new manager D for dick head. D, before he became a manager, would often say horrible things about my colleague to me. He would outright call him stupid, saying I shouldn't trust anything he says, would put him down a lot. We don't have HR so I reported it to his boss and showed her the messages. D didn't say anything bad about him to me after, but during meetings he would be very cold to my colleague. It because quite a surprise to us when D became our manager because of the events about.
And the colleague? Well he was fired with immediate effect. I checked our contracts and apparently they can do that but it's not right, especially since our colleague didn't do anything bad.
That isn't even the first time they've fired someone with immediate effect. 5 people in total in less than a year have been fired, with only one following a disciplinary process.
My rant doesn't end here unfortunately. The company acquired a huge successful client. Our company is now bending over backwards for them because of it. This client (who is known across the world) has been horrible to my other colleague. They would ask for one thing, change their minds but blame their change on my colleague. She has evidence that proves this. Her project manager does not give a shit, and just wants the work done. She knows that my colleague implemented it correctly but continues to let them treat her badly. It's fucking disgusting.
Our company is more focused on clients needs than their employees. So much so that 2 of us are leaving. This means that there is only 1 person left in our team who has been here longer than 2 years and he's just been promoted so that he doesn't leave. They're getting us to train them up but we still have to get our tasks done on time and to a good standard. They won't pay us any more money for it, won't help us, and then say its not their fault if we go off sick for work stress.
I don't know why covid made the company monsters. They became so greedy and selfish, but try and mask it or manipulate us into thinking it's our fault.

whenever somebody responds with “I beg your pardon?” assert your dominance by announcing “Then Beg.”
