@bittersweetyurio liked for a starter (x)
“Yurio!” Viktor ran up to the other Russian skater, a wide smile on the older man’s face. “I was hoping you’d join Yuuri and I for dinner tonight. He said he wants to do something for my birthday and asked if I could invite you along.” He wasn’t sure what Yuuri was planning, but always enjoyed a chance to see Yuri. Despite his teasing, he did care for the younger man, and would do what he could to help him. “I know you probably don’t want to be see with us, but it is my birthday.”
nightmare // not a dream
@bittersweetyurio // continued
Viktor froze, shivers running up his spine, his eyes widening painfully. Shitshitshitshitshitshitshit! He’d been caught. He’d been fucking caught. This was it. This was the end.
Some small part of his mind recognized the child’s voice, but it was drowned out by the young man’s sheer panic. He let out a soft whimper and fell to his knees, sliding down the wall. Tears streamed down his face as he clutched his throbbing hand.
“I-I...” he choked out. “So-rry. Thi-s won’-t affect my ska-ting. I’ll get rea-dy for practice,” he said, almost robotically, through his sobs. He stood shakily and walked over to his duffel, grabbing his practice skates and sliding them onto his feet. His hands shook violently as he tried to lace them. The pain in his right hand and wrist was excruciating, but he tried not to show it.
He’d get scolded if he didn’t get ready quickly, and he really, really hated that. It made him feel even worse than he normally did. Viktor’s anxiety had full control over him and it made even the practiced motion of lacing his skates impossible. Viktor let out a loud choking sob, almost a shriek, as one of the laces slipped out of his fingers for the third time, but he still didn’t speak. He just grabbed the end and tried again.
Broken... on ice
It’s a miracle that he lasted so long. Really, Viktor could almost be proud of himself for pasting on that smile. The one he hated so much. It was sickly sweet, like rotten flowers. But the crowd loved it. And didn’t he exist for them? That was the point wasn’t it? Being a performer, whoring yourself for the crowd. This was what people dreamed of. He gathered the roses in his arms as he skated off the rink. Time to sit there with his coach and look happy when he sees his score. He knows what it is already. His execution was perfect, as always, but this is what they wanted. Just a little longer. Just a few more minutes of playing pretend. The announcer called out his score, but to Viktor, it was just a number. Scores didn’t pay the bills, that was advertising. Standing on a set with a bottle of some disgusting sports drink and pretending that it was better than whatever other disgusting sports drink he’d endorsed the year before. ‘You should be proud, Viktor,’ they’d told him. ‘Most skaters dream of such contracts!’ He smiled and waved at the reporters he passed on his way to the locker room. He wondered how stupid they thought he was. That he’d smile at them despite the disgusting things they’d said. ‘It’s just business, we do it for the ratings.’ What did Viktor care for ratings? He just wanted to be left alone. But no. He belonged to the public now. And for them, he had to dance. And dance and dance and dance. Until his feet were raw and his legs trembled. Until he collapsed on the ice and never moved again. A perfect ballerina in a pretty glass box. Plastic, replaceable, adored.
But never loved.
When he first laid eyes on the little blonde boy, he wanted to grab him and shake him and tell him to run. That this dream of his was a nightmare in disguise. But he couldn’t say it. Not when his coach was standing so close.
Instead he gave the boy a smile. It was small and sad, but a smile nonetheless. “Hello. I’m Viktor. What’s your name?” he asked, crouching before the child.
@bittersweetyurio
He glared at the blond skater with his arms crossed.
“You know, if you weren’t so pretty I’d fight you for making fun of Yuuri!”
@bittersweetyurio
──❊──"Yurio!" Yuuri waved to the smaller male, a smile on his face as he trotted towards him. He mostly seemed oblivious to whatever resentment the blonde held for him. He took in a deep breath and adjusted the frames on his face before he continued to speak. "I wanted to come wish you good luck. You know, before the big competition."
Maybe his friendliness could be mistaken for being condescending, but Yuuri was being genuine. It was no secret to him that Yurio was an amazing skater and challenging competition. "Maybe we could get a coffee together?"
