The man, the myth, the legend. George Hissung , owner of @hybridgymbjj , is one of the most amazing people I know, and a true legend in the #pacNW BJJ community. 3° black belt under @marcelo_alonso_bjj and Professor Alonso's first American Black Belt. George is retiring from law enforcement, but will still continue to instruct at his own gym, and around the region. Truly a mentor of mine - not just in jiu jitsu, but as a police officer, and as a compassionate human being. Finally got to hang with my guy @craighanaumi - also a positive force in the world and doing great things in the community. Brother's got a wicked collar choke too, as I recently discovered. . . . . #CT50 #bjj #bjjforcops #invictus #invictusbjj #copstuff #coplife #bestjobever #grindhardstayhumble https://www.instagram.com/p/B7MjNVXnnqu/?igshid=6k4gb42cpmfv
Knowing jiu jitsu fundamentals should be a baseline expectation for every police officer. That said, knowing how to translate jiu jitsu from the mats to the streets is a whole other language and conversation. Super privileged to get some small group time in with George Hissung, owner of @hybridgymbjj . George is the first American to be awarded a black belt (3rd degree) under @marcelo_alonso_bjj , and he also happens to have a wealth of knowledge and experience as a street cop in the PacNW. Here, George demonstrates some finer details in a knee cut series we're working on for a weeklong DT Instructor School next week. . . . . . #CT50 #jiujitsu #bjj #bjjforlawenforcement #bjjforcops #defensivetactics #dt #hybridgym #mabjj #mabjj4life #copstuff #coplife #bestjobever #grindhardstayhumble https://www.instagram.com/p/B652wAnHUoG/?igshid=cyic90jtmpog

Hi everyone I just want to remind everyone what the purpose of Jiujitsu is. #jiujitsu is first and foremost a Self Defense. I know many of you get caught up in the sport training, and like to roll with more advanced guys because you tend to get less crazy resistance from them. I get it. However, Jiujitsu’s strength is against non trained fighters/attackers. When I used to have to demonstrate the power and effectiveness of Jiujitsu to the police department, In the early days I would have to roll(physically train with everyone in the room) to get them to see and feel how powerful Jiujitsu is I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that in a typical class there were between 40-60 guys all sizes and strength and I would train with ALL of them one after the other. I was not a black belt, maybe PurPle at the time, 160lbs wet, and never could I even suggest that they go slow or light on me because I was smaller than almost everyone in that room. NO! Instead I would pick the biggest guys in that room and go with them first! I wasn’t cocky, I was confident in Jiujitsu. I knew how to control, neutralize and use leverage to SUBMIT all of them. So the moral of this story is to keep training, don’t get upset with that new guy that used strength on you, and instead remind your self of why you got into Jiujitsu in the first place. To be able to defend guys like that! So stop whining about the hard roll, and keep training, but occasionally it is recommended that you train with that new guy, just to get a sense of how it would feel to have to grapple a regular street person. Keep training everyone! #senseitrillo #bjjforcops #jiujitsulife #selfdefensebjj #trillonation (at Trillo Academy) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqpbzNOA3Nk/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1rd086id03adq
