The other day I finished playing the Commander Lilith & The Fight for Sanctuary DLC, and man that was fun! I loved how it not only introduced some of the TFTBL lore in a fun way, but also helped make a cool bridge between the second and third game.  Also loved the little touches on the crashed Helios station harkening back to the Pre-Sequel.  But most importantly VAUGHN. Ah that sweet sweet boy

Interesting story, lore and character bits from the Commander Lilith DLC - Part 2

“I’ve finally finished all the side missions, so here we go. 

There was a prototype for Angel’s room in Helios Fallen. Lilith wanted to destroy it but Tannis asks for the data first. Tannis now has data on the contaiment of sirens and who knows what else.

Lilith calls Angel a “caged bird” and laments the life she could’ve lived. It’s a cool bit for her character to show that Lilith values freedom a lot and easily emphatizes with other sirens - and kids 

Lilith wanted to protect Tina and keep her away from the whole Hector trouble, but caved when realized how important it was for Tina to help and how much she likes the canons and explosions involved. 

Tina calls Lilith “Lilly” and “lilly-of-the-valley” 

Pandoran soil is naturally really bad for flora, that’s why that aren’t many plants or variations of them in Pandora as much as there’s fauna

The pandoran natural fauna was fighting the introduced megaflora

The plant spores that infected the new pandora men can also be found on the higher Pandora atmosphere - possibly air might even be good for flora, but soil is bad still? 

Vaughn is the one that “gives” Butt Stallion to Tina 

Mordecai, Brick and Tina are the B-team

Tina says the B stands for bootylicious 

Tina calls them Brick-papa and Mordy-mom and they incorporate that into their speech, with Brick even saying “don’t talk like that to your mom” 

Tina calls the Vault Hunter “vaulty vault” almost as a preference now 

Among Scooter’s best porno magazines there’s one called Sirens that’s essencially models posing as sirens - of course even in canon people are thirsty for sirens 

Mordecai has been sober for a year, to take care of Talon like he mentioned in the Son of Crawmerax DLC

Brick is planting the corpses of plant infected bandits and calling it his community garden

Brick and Vaughn play Bloodball together, possibly always on Wednesdays

tina tried playing B&B with Claptrap, but he insists it’s all made up and doesn't wanna roll so she banned him from her table

Brick explains to Lilith she can't be the kind of leader that kills because she is mad/because she has personal gripes, saying Roland banned him when he did the same, comparing Lilith to Roland - that’s why Brick doesn’t agree with her leadership and possibly why he seems happier about Lilith by the end of the DLC

He's also not interested in the war the Guardian warned them about

I wonder if Mordecai, Brick and Tina are directly involved in whatever is going on in BL3

Vaughn considers Hyperion underwear - tighty whiteys called the Hyperion Redbar X-2000 - to be his “artifact of power” 

Despite this joke, Vaughn ends his sequence of side missions asking us to help him with a new clan saying that being a bandit is about freedom, and that he’ll find his own way of being a bandit king

Vaughn sets out to roam Pandora

It’s possible that’s when he decides he only wants to wear underwear

The whole New Pandora uprising gave the Dahl Corp bad PR they’ll have to deal with

Okay so uhhhh the new rainbow guns (no I will not call them effervescent Gearbox) added to Borderlands 2 are possibly my favorite guns ever? Especially when my partner plays as a Gunzerker and can duel wield unicornsplosions!

I don't know if anything will ever compare to seeing that many unicorns, rainbows, sparkles, and explosions causing mass destruction to plant monsters.

Commander Lilith DLC - rambly “final” thoughts: Lilith’s Arc and a Homage to Pandora

Lilith's arc is, in short, of accepting she has to take risks and act based on decisions that involve rationality and everyone’s well being instead of keeping on being controlled by her emotions - particularly anger and grief. While emotion is not a bad thing at all, this DLC worked for Lilith as Dragon Keep did for Tina, as a way to remake her worldview after losing Roland, a person that was essencialy every other character’s compass. 

Lilith grows as a definitive leader from the momment she stops being led by emotion, making the call to destroy Sanctuary - their home - to keep the whole of Pandora safe. Not only this, but also staying behind to find the key, because: 

1. She accepts being alone again - it’s very obvious for her character that she deals badly with being alone and feels safe and takes pride in the fact that staying and working together is what allowed the original Vault Hunters to survive (her, Mordy, Brick and Roland)

2. She does so to help the mission - is not what only she wants, it’s what the squad wanted and was set on doing from the start 

3. She knows the squad wants to leave Pandora and is willing to sacrifice her momentary well being for their long term happyness 

The DLC also pays a huge homage to Pandora, something very fitting. The characters love cursing the planet, and so do we as players, but it’s ultimately our home. We like Pandora and the thrills of it, and since we’re leaving for BL3, it feels good to leave it with the feeling of gratitude and closure. 

There’s a lot of focus on how Pandora turned the characters into who they are, for better or worse, but also in accepting change and that they all deserve better.

And that Pandora deserved better too.

It’s just really refreshing to see Borderlands going into a more contemplative place writing wise, so to say. A look in how the characters are all broken in some way or another but manage to overlook it through having a purpose, being proud of surviving and being together. 

Makes me wonder what BL3 is gonna bring.
