Concept for a Borderlands OC that's been sitting in my brain for a while!

Anshin has literally no lore and I'm so obsessed with the implication of a fashion venture with the Quick Change Machines, so I had to come up with something.

Might post more concepts in the future, I have so many ideas for the whole Anshin board of directors lmao

Patricia Tannis is truly the character of all time. She's a mad scientist. She's autistic. She's bisexual. She has objectum sexuality. She's the leading scientific authority on her special interest. She's a condescending asshole to everyone. She watched all of her colleagues die and spent roughly two years in near total isolation while slowly descending into madness. She was in a polyamorous relationship with two chairs and watched one of them get tortured to death. She wants friends so badly. She hates social interaction to the point that someone saying hello to her in the street caused blood to spurt out of her nose once, and she considered this a win because it ended the conversation. Someone called her pretty one time and she dry-heaved into a bucket for four straight hours. She is known to bite. She steals people's shin bones. She takes power naps inside a monster carcass. She calls her secret lab a 'terror pavilion.' She thinks music and people who like it are stupid, except for this one singer she enjoys. She's deeply attached to the people in her life. She's currently one of the most powerful characters in the setting, and her scientific curiosity is what set all the events of the series into motion in the first place. Patron saint of strange and offputting women. More people should be obsessed with her.

the ports in angels skull must be so painful i think about it all the time. its just so violent looking.

the change in how angel treats the vault hunters between games is interesting to think about when taking jacks plans into consideration. because she encourages the BL1 VHs to be very very violent in a way that she doesnt in BL2.

in BL1 jacks (and by extension the VHs) goal is to open the vault of the destroyer and cause as much chaos as they can in the meantime. chasing baron and atlas out of leadership left a power vacuum that hyperion immediately took the chance to fill. so barons men are scattered, the atlas soldiers lost the war, and the people of pandora are no longer unified until the raiders are formed, which jack then handles himself during the fall of new haven. he essentially used the BL1 VHs as bulldozers to make way for him. but in BL2, the VHs are really just glorified messengers. their only reason for living past the train is to compromise sanctuary and then summarily get nuked off the face of the earth. angel is not overtly encouraging them to hurt people, and instead its simply implied within other goals she gives them. find the firehawk, save roland, get to sanctuary. it puts a more heroic spin on what theyre doing as apposed to the guns, guts, and glory mentality of BL1, where the VHs are her friends, and she is telling her friends that these people deserve to die because theyve done bad things. in BL2, its more about protecting the raiders than it is about killing. but the requirement of death is still very much there, its just subverted this time by new language- get to sanctuary = kill the fleshrippers. find the firehawk = kill the cotf. save roland = kill the bloodshots. stop handsome jack and save all of pandora = kill her.

in fact we never see her get that direct in BL2 until she is pushing them to kill her at the end of the game. BL1 starts with her ordering the death of a local bandit leader, and then many more soon after, but it takes until the end of BL2 for her to outright say "no. you are going to listen. and you are going to kill me." which makes me think that shes internalized a part of jacks pattern of making excuses to justify the horrible things that he does with what is Right and what Needs To Be Done. you lie to yourself to get the job done. you kill for a better pandora.

thinking abt. sirens being sacrificed to their vault monsters. nyriad locking herself away for feeding the destroyer, and steele being eaten by it hundreds of years later. angel dying to stop the warrior and then lilith taking her place. maya dying just feet away from the rampager's corpse. troy and tyreen both dying to open the great vault. the destroyer coming back Again through tyreen merging with it. and lilith leaving the raiders to move elpis away from pandora. just born to die for something bigger.
