Scorpia lore thoughts. From when she says her family wasn’t liked by the other princesses (IIRC).
This feeds off a specific headcanon I have that purely humanoid people in the SPOP universe are First Ones descendants. First Ones being galactic colonizers would have spread themselves everywhere, so the star siblings are also First Ones descendants. First Ones injected themselves everywhere. This makes it perfectly plausible that Adora fit in for so long and only Prime was able to recognize she was purely a First One since he’s the only person still “alive” that had contact with them. So he knew what to look for. Oh Razz too but unlike Prime she is an actual all knowing god.
Jumping to the princess runestones, which are First Ones tech that are linked to a family lineage. The First Ones would have set their own people to be connected to the stones, of course. So we see all the princesses being purely humanoid, or following this idea, predominantly of First Ones heritage.
Except for Scorpia. She physical traits that aren’t humanoid and she is the only one. As far as we see, her family is the only royal family connected to a runestone that has non-First Ones visible traits.
And knowing colonizers, her family would have been outcasted for probably being “impure”, for having tainted First Ones lineage. For this First Ones theory, I would have to also headcanon that the scorpion features would have happened along the way during the millennia that Etheria was in despondos.
There’s also something interesting about the Black Garnets magic. It seems like it has the ability to disrupt the magic of others. It happened to Glimmer when she was held captive by Shadow Weaver. I think Glimmer’s magic was healed when the big friendship happened at the end of season one, perhaps with She-Ra subconsciously correcting or healing Glimmers magic during the big friendship. She-Ra’s healing powers are motivated by friendship. And there was a very big friendship.
She-Ra was also disrupted while fighting Scorpia. This could have very much been due to her feeling a lack of friendship and Catra motivated lesbian confusion, which, it happens. She-Ra did take direct hits from Scorpia.
These two events could absolutely be not the result of the Black Garnets magic but still a coincidence.
If Scorpia’s family was ostracized by the other royal families then that could have changed how the Black Garnet’s magic is channeled, it could have some of a bitterness to it.
I do also think that the First Ones would have specifically tuned their runestone tech to only be compatible with their own people. So maybe things got a little wonky when the person connected to the runestone became less First One.
It would be interesting to see how if future princesses deviated more from their First Ones lineage, how their magic would change.
There’s also how highly loyalty is valued in Scorpia’s family, if we take what she said of her family literally. Being strongly outcasted would mean they old on tightly to what they do have, making loyalty highly important. And if her family was at odds with other kingdoms with only themselves as their own allies they would have been weaker. They possibly would have been in conflict with other kingdoms without possessing any real allies. Both of those things would have been an entry point for Hordak (because I will always talk about Hordak).
There’s something interesting to think about with this value of loyalty versus Scorpia being alone in the Horde. If her family was forced out by Hordak I feel it actually makes some sense with this strong sense of loyalty that they would leave her behind with the kingdom. Loyalty isn’t always love, sometimes it’s nationalism and nationalism always aligns itself with power. Since any kingdoms greatest power is their elemental princess if they have one, they would want to maintain that connection with their family even if they themselves have to leave. Even if they have to leave a child behind.
It would also make sense for Hordak to want to have a princess in his army. Even if it’s to keep her powerless though I don’t know if that’s entirely the case. She does say she never had a connection to her runestone so it’s possible she might have tried, maybe even with Shadow Weaver’s and Hordak’s support. Or Shadow Weaver just made her believe that to have the Black Garnet to herself. They both would have wanted that power to work for them. Scorpia not connecting to her runestone might have been a subconscious way of protecting herself from Shadow Weaver’s insidiousness.
There’s also an emotional influence on one’s ability to connect with their magical powers. So maybe when Scorpia finally had friendship that wasn’t chasing after Catra, she was able to make the connection when she tried.
So in conclusion, I believe from being the result of First Ones colonizer practices, and colonizers love their eugenics because colonizers are stupid, Scorpia’s family could have been highly discriminated against by the other royal families. And I’m very glad that’s changed.
