I personally believe that even though Etheria is (obviously) accepting of queer people/royalty, and there is a SURPLUS of lesbian, gay, or aro-spec royalty, there are still laws of “you have to appoint an heir by a certain age”, albeit much less creepy or blood-relation forced than irl. You just gotta find someone you trust to teach to lead your kingdom if you don’t want kids, just to keep the politics of this world afloat.
I also believe since Entrapta was lowkey a hermit, the board of princesses (or whatever they’d be called) was really starting to get on her about how she’s getting to thirty years old and if she died, Dryl would be screwed until they find someone else and yadda yadda. But she like doesn’t know anyone younger than her that doesn’t already rule a kingdom. She also doesn’t really care, she’s just annoyed people keep reminding her.
Thirdly, I believe that the second that woman started working in the Sanctum, she set eyes on Imp and went “ahahahaha!” and signed an official document crowning him the legal next heir of Dryl the same day she met him. She informed Imp of this, of course. Didn’t think of mentioning it Hordak, though, that part slipped her mind.
She just drops this in conversation with him several months after the fact as if it were the weather. Just halfway through a sentence about random stuff “—and also because Imp is heir to Dryl, and—” and Hordak chokes on his water and yells “WAIT WHAT.”
“Oh, did I forget to mention that? My bad.”
“YES YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THAT. WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN? HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? WHY DID THAT HAPPEN?” And he turns to Imp like “DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS???”
And Imp gives the smuggest little smirk and opens his mouth and repeats Entrapta informing him of this (again, several months ago) and then Hordak probably faints but also it’s too late to change it.
Anyway, I also think in Season 4, as Entrapta is………unable to rule….Dryl legally belongs to Imp until she’s off Beast Island.
And while I’ve taken so much of your time, please consider: an adult Imp ruling as the Prince of Dryl once his parents retire, still only able to speak in recordings and squeaks+other animal noises, so his little brother, Prince Kadroh/Wrong Hordak, is his translator 🥹
Now do I trust those two to run a kingdom, much less one of the biggest, most powerful and certainly the most ~technologically advanced~? Absolutely not. But hey, Entrapta made that choice not me. That’s future Etheria’s problem.
