Fic title: Show Your Wounds, I'm Bored With Mine

A blackgeneral fic where somehow Kozmotis and Pitch somehow end up being able to exchange letters over a vast span of years, neither of them knowing who they are to each other, only that they both feel that they can finally be truly open with their mysterious correspondent. At the end it becomes clear to them though. (For maximum angst, Kozmotis sends a recriminatory “why didn’t you warn me?” letter just before Pitch had finally figured out how to word a warning letter. After what Kozmotis says, he doesn’t want to send it. After he’s cooled down, though...turns out that their new understanding of each other broke the enchantment that allowed them to communicate in the first place.

It’s precisely one year since I wrote this; exhausted from working too long for too many days without break. And I find myself in the same situation now. I’ve worked for too long and I can brag that I got 5h of sleep last night compared to colleagues and friends who got 2h or no sleep at all.

I maaaaay have taken a few liberties with the prompt. Here we have the boys’ rather… unconventional… first meeting.

Pitch, muttering an incantation, lit all of the black candles that had been meticulously arranged at each of the points of the pentagram before flicking off the lights and stepping inside the circle

Tonight was the night, he knew it. He’d gotten all the ingredients (most from the butcher down the street, a few from the housewares store in the mall), worked out all the incantantions and symbols and timing needed to summon a spirit into the world. One that he could bind to his will, if all things went well, and set on his enemies (like that idiotic editor of his). It would be perfect.

He lit the incense, continued his chant, and sketched symbols in the air, calling to the other realm, reaching through the veil that separated the worlds. With a shout, he finished the summoning and the candles at the corners of the pentagram all flared for a blinding instant, then abruptly guttered out.

"Say, did you know that you drew the protective circle wrong?" an amused voice asked, as the thing that Pitch had summoned stepped effortlessly through the wards meant to contain it.

Kozmotis unlocked the door to the house and lurched inside with a groan. He knew it was a mistake, going to the Halloween party that his coworkers had cajoled him into. He was getting too old for this. It was too bad Pitch had fallen ill and had to stay home, but at least Kozmotis hadn’t had to worry about his twin getting drunk and handsy and having to field awkward questions from his coworkers this time. He stumbled into the living room and flicked on the lights, only to be greeted by a horrific mess.

"Oh my god, Pitch!" Kozmotis shrieked. "There is wax everywhere, good god! And you drew pentagrams on our floor?! Is this what you stayed home tonight for?! I cannot believe you!”

There was a pitter-patter of skittering footfalls in the adjacent dining room, followed by a heavy thump and a tinkle of glass. “Koz? Koz, you’re home!” Pitch shouted from somewhere past the doorway.

"Damn straight I’m home! What the fuck is this? You cannot seriously believe that this bullshit works!" Kozmotis ranted, stomping to the dining room to properly yell at his twin.

"Well, actually, about that-" Pitch said as he stood in the middle of the dining room, clutching a broom upside-down, scattered shards of ceramic dishware and assorted cutlery around him.

"No! You are not getting out of this, you asshole! You lied to me, you made a complete mess of the living room, and you’re trying to destroy the dining room too now? What the fuck is wrong with you?"

"It wasn’t me who made this mess!" Pitch snapped back, gesturing to the wreckage on the floor.

"Oh? Then who did, huh? Little magic fairies?" Kozmotis demanded.

"No, him!" Pitch yelled, jabbing a finger up at where their chandelier hung. "…I need you to help me get him down, by the way."

Kozmotis rolled his eyes and looked up, to humor Pitch. He was greeted by the sight of a spindly ghost-pale thing clinging to their chandelier and staring down at him with eeriely glowing blue eyes. It grinned, revealing multiple rows of needle-sharp teeth. “Hi there.”

Kozmotis screamed.
