I was watching a gorgeous anime intro sequence with a musical cross between Baccano and “Sono Chino Sadame”. The camera was a spiraling tour through a massive mansion where unhappy looking people in 1940s garb were creeping around, each with a bizarre object or companion. I kept seeing glimpses of other people in mirrors, around corners, going into secret doors. At last, everyone pulled together into a central room where all the unhappy people stood at the bottom of a staircase and 10 extremely well dressed and disdainful individuals leered down at them from above.

I learned that the premise of this show was that the 10 Watchers had lured 20 “tenants” to the mansion. All of them were being blackmailed for something, but not even they knew what their secrets were because their memories went selectively blank as soon as they walked into the building. The Watchers gave each person a magical item, or a person with magical abilities to help collect clues in the house. If they could figure out what their secret was and kill the Watcher that blackmailed them, they could go free. However, all the Watchers knew all the secrets, and every watcher had 2 blackmail victims. If one victim killed them off, then the other victim’s secret would be revealed. This lead to victims sabotaging or outright hunting each other.

One of the magical companions was a chipper 14 year old girl who was partially paralyzed, so she had limited control over her legs. She could determine if a scenario could have happened or not, e.g. if Watcher 1 blackmailed Victim 3, but the less background she had, the simulation took exponentially longer for her to run. I am about 90% certain that the person she was teamed up with was the person who shot her as a kid and caused her paralysis.
