tldr; YES.
// Indeed, it has. It’s changed quite a bit. When I started writing as Erika, I expected that most of her personality would be the stereotypical “living in their sibling’s shadow” character, but it’s definitely evolved further than that. Even though her inferiority complex and somewhat resentful feelings toward Riven do mold her, I never thought that I’d ship EriTal so hard. I personally thought of the EriTal relationship as a simple, unrequited love from her end, but it’s a lot more, after I’ve had some interesting interactions (staring at kouhai), and fun asks to respond to. I never really thought that her relationships with the Du Couteaus would change her so much, but wow, they’ve really shaped Erika into a character I’ve come to love a lot more than what I did on my own. And believe me when I say I was super proud of the work I did on her all those years ago.
DAMN.
Kouhai’s headcanon about her Talon getting abused was an inspiration for the abuse that Erika had to endure throughout her childhood too. I kind of regret, kind of don’t regret my almost-headcanon about a meeting between Erika and Vladimir... (now if you’re wondering about that one, maybe you should drop an ask?!) Then there’s all that stuff about, in all his holiness, Varus, my headcanons about Riven and Varus being in love before the war, Varus’ family, Shen stuff, then the Piltovians... where Erika ends up having a BrOTP/Bromance with Ezreal. JUST WHY? I’ve always hated Ezreal as both a champion and a character, but dayum, ezrxal definitely made me change my mind. I legitimately told myself that I would never ship it. Yet there’s a tag for it and everything. My perspective is just. So different. That’s all I can really say.
The character I had in mind as I was creating this account was a young, naive girl who thought she could rise up against the evils in the world. I definitely did not write someone like that. She’s still a young, naive girl, but she’s someone who is just naturally kind-hearted in a horribly hostile environment. Like waow the poor girl, she’s pretty pathetic. I dunno. I honestly thought I’d make her amazingly Mary Sue-ish-ly heroic, but at least she’s believable? She was a lot... smarter when I first starting writing her. That is a definite fact, I know that much. I think it’d be more believable if she actually died along the way, because, come on, can we just count how many times she’s faced death and lived? AT LEAST THREE... four if you count the Vladimir headcanon.
But yeah. I think she’s definitely changed, and for the better. //
