Sleepy Hollow Gnome Village - July 2020 The full name of this place in Blairsville, Georgia is the Sleepy Hollow Whimsical Fairy Garden. The owner is a former Disney Imagineer who has built portions of several well-known amusement parks. Fortunately, there is enough land in front of his house and workshop to build a Gnome Village. All of the houses, gnomes, etc. are for sale in the shop, but walking through the Fairy Garden is just a donation if you desire. There were several families there when we stopped by. These ten images are a photographic tour of the village. The little Gnome houses are in a gully alongside the larger houses. MWM

Blood Mountain

Blood mountain, the highest peak in Georgia that lies on the Appalachian trail, has a history as bloody as it’s name.

Though it’s possible that it’s named for the reddish lichen that grows near the top, its agreed upon by locals that it’s name after a bloody battle between the Creek and Cherokee Native American tribes. The violence stained the mountain blood red.

The native people lost to the waging of war isn’t the only blood the mountain has seen shed. On New Years Day of 2008, hiker Meredith Hope Emerson was last seen walking with her dog on blood mountain. Witnesses claim she was seen talking to an older man. Her dog was found 3 days later, approximately 60 miles away in Cumming, Georgia.

Suspect Gary Michael Hilton was arrested and charged with Meredith’s murder on January 4, 2008 when her blood was found in the interior of his van, which he was beginning to clean with bleach, but was apprehended before he could, officers claim. As a deal to avoid the death penalty, Hilton led police to Meredith’s body. Hilton claims to have kept Hilton alive for 4 days before killing her. Meredith ultimately died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Is the mountain out for blood, or is it just an unfortunate coincidence? Locals and tourist hikers alike claim to hear disembodied voices, the heavy pattern of someone running from behind them, and screaming on the trails of Blood Mountain. Could it be the spirits of the slain native people, or the spirit of a young woman calling out for help?
