Ever seen a flamethrower in the movies?

It’s a fiery torch designed to destroy people. ‘Blame throwers’ do the same. When life doesn’t go their way, instead of taking responsibility for their decisions and actions they blame others. And there’s no shortage of scapegoats. For example: my business would have succeeded if the banker had loaned me more money…I wanted to be part of the ministry team…

Q+A: Blame Thrower

1. The one song I wish I wrote is...

The world is yours by Nas.

2. Three things I can’t live without are...

Me mum, me Pops and Cozy beans (Ciara).

3. If I could only play music in one genre for the rest of my life it would be...

Hardcore punx.

4. Three adjectives that describe my life are..

Stinky, sleepy and annoying.

5. If I held a world record it would be for...

Worlds smelliest human.

6. My first memory of loving music is...

Haha Butterfly by Crazy Town, I used to love that song. As for a first true true love of music, probably hearing Rage Against the Machine’s self titled album for the first time.

7. The song of mine that I am the proudest of is...

For Blame Thrower it would definitely be ‘Best Friend’. I wrote that as a love letter to Cozy when I felt like an absolute rubbish human and she was always so consistent in helping me through the crap that came my way. I really love that girl and I get to play in a band with her! So that’s pretty cool.

8. One band I could listen to on repeat forever is...

I wouldn’t want to listen to any band forever. I mean, I love music but at some point anything repeated enough is going to start to sound like torture right? The first band that comes to mind for me is a French band called ‘Sport’, they have a good consistency but have also changed enough over time that i wouldn’t get too bored I think.

9. The ideal environment for me to create music in is...

Late at night and by myself so I don’t feel bad just repeating the same riff for 30 minutes.

10. If I could have any two bands open for me they would be...

Ummm maybe someone like ‘OFF’ or someone that I would never otherwise get a chance to see. I bet Cozy would pick some cool kid music that actually blows so lets just say ‘Youth Avoiders’, we both like that band.

11. Can you tell us the story of how Blame Thrower came about?

We were originally a three piece called Powercruise which was super catchy and played some cool shows, but that broke up so me and Cozy decided to just do a faster version of it but as a two piece. It made sense to have only the two of us because we are both very much on the same page musically.

12. What are the difficult parts of having both members in different cities?

It sucks not being able to have a beer with your bro on a Thursday and shoot the shit. Most importantly for Blame Thrower it was never about the music it was to hang out with your bro so that gets pretty tough.

13. I know you guys are very DIY, is there a reason for that?

Poor + Punx as = DIY. But seriously it is much cooler seeing the tangible result of something you have created from start to finish whether that be shirts, shows or videos. It’s nice to know that you did it.

14. Your music is high energy so I can definitely see your shows being chaotic. What should we expect when coming to see you?

Two nerds yelling.

15. Lastly, what does Blame Thrower have in the works for the future?

We just released a video for Best Friend which you can find on YouTube. We are also releasing a new EP soon that we recorded in Melbourne months ago so yeah look out for that I guess!
