THE MYSTERIOUS FUNCTION OF BELIEF
Wed 23rd April - Sunday 27th April 2014, Lewisham Art House, London.
The Mysterious Function of Belief

Buffalo Tide
Part of the new BLBX collective, Buffalo Tide is Friday's featured artist with a new, self-released single, Huge Chromosome, due out next week.
Firstly some background info. Originally from Vancouver but now calling Hove his home, Buffalo Tide joined other electronica/glitch producers Jermaine Soul, Kimberdrift, Ambi:non and Crowstick in forming BLBX with a shared ethos for artistic expression and control. Hailing from a mixture of London, Brighton, Leeds and Norwich, they formed BLBX in order to both support each other practically while also push each other forward artistically and allow themselves to have full control over their work with a heavy emphasis on originality, both in their influences and output.
These tenets are clearly evident in Huge Chromosome, as Buffalo Tide leads us on a bleak and darkly metallic journey into the poorly-lit back alleys and deserted industrial estates of modern electronica, normally associated with the likes of Autechre and Aphex Twin. Foreboding, unpredictable and starkly produced, both 'Mess Hall Malnutrition' and 'What We See, What We Become, In The Desert' lull the listener into a false sense of security, albeit a slightly unnerved one, before abruptly changing tack and lurching off down another shadowy sidestreet and it is for this imagination and originality, both in the tracks here and the collective's output as a whole, that BLBX are starting to get the attention they deserve.
