The radio, Spotify, Pandora — they all work as expected. For about thirty minutes, until the song choices begin to loop. A grown-ass man probably didn’t set his Spotify station to children’s songs, so there’s no explanation as to why they repeatedly and insistently keep playing the same song over and over until shut off.
It stops after a few days, so it’s easy to dismiss — a glitch, maybe, or a virus. Weird shit happens on computers all the time.
Also easily explainable: things that go missing and reappear in the exact spot they were intended to be, but hours later. Mostly drinks, especially liquor. Phone calls from people who repeatedly ask for someone named Isaac, and who hang up immediately upon being told it’s a wrong number. That feels like a prank, or like some asshole named Isaac gave a bunch of people a wrong number. It’s irritating in its persistence, though the people on the other side never get angry or emotional; they only hang up. It is a different person every time, so if it’s a prank it’s a very elaborate one.
It’s a week of this before things settle down and go quiet. No more weird wrong number calls or disappearing bottles of liquor. The weatherman has been droning on on the TV for something like five minutes, talking about the week’s forecast — mostly sunshine with scattered showers — and pointing to a colourful map, going over individual areas and talking about atmospheric pressure and low temperatures, when he pauses. His head turns to look directly into the camera, followed by his body. He’s now looking outside of the screen itself, addressing the viewer directly.
“Who have you told?”

Protecting and defending was all part of Troy's job, but for some reason he's yet to find an explanation on, he's more protective over her than normal. Seeing her in that way, seeing her so defenseless and desperate was something he never wanted to see again, he never wanted to see her land in similar circumstances and he knew that it was possible it would happen, if she didn't have the protection that she so rightfully deserved - at least he believed so. Being there so she had a friendly face to wake up to wasn't necessarily the strangest of occurrences. He'd turned up to countless victims bedsides but this was the first time he'd bought a gift and a card along with him. Sure, it was only a balloon and a get well soon card, but it still expressed a level of care that may have been against the rules set out for him; by the force, and by himself too. He smiles as he sees her lashes flicker, it's soft - but there's a warmth to it that's hard to deny. "Hey there," he begins - his head cants and he speaks slowly, softly. He doesn't want to startle her. Reading the files and knowing what she'd been through in the past couple of weeks and months meant that he was more than ready to be gentle with her, cautious. Despite the rough, hard and powerful persona that he was famous for.
