Bleach Rant time

The Fullbringer Arc is just the Visored Arc rehashed

✨Mysterious ✨group of people

They have a specialized power

They have their own hideouts

Ichigo unknowingly has that power

A character basically stalks Ichigo in the beginning

They lure him

They start with basic training (Visords hes on an aerobic machine, Fullbring hes in the doll house)

He says to skip that stuff and just fight him

They do so and he gains his powers through getting his ass kicked and learning because of it

The first power (visored) is incomplete, the second power (fullbringer) is stolen

Hiyori and Riruka are near copy paste attitude wise. They are also both the ones that begin the basic training. Difference is Hiyori gets a massive back story that makes her a sympathetic character. Riruka is just annoying period and also looks stupid imo.

Now there are some similarities with filler arcs, I realized Kubo doesn't write those but the writers aren't stupid and they go off already established themes. The fight against Ginjo at the end felt exactly like his fight against the head of the Bount (I forget name), and his fight with Muramasa in the Zapankuto Arc. Which is probably why people mistake Fullbringer Arc as a filler (I was so confused seeing people call it that). Riruka also kinda reminds me of Ririn of the Bount Arc... but even Ririn had many redeeming qualities.

So far TYBW just feels like a rehash of Arrancar Arc(s)

Ridiculously powerful enemies. So powerful its hard to imagine any character defeating them

Big Bad Enemy Dude™ (Aizen / Yhwach)

That only Ichigo can defeat of course

A Betrayal™ of the enemy (Gin / Uryu)

Kisuke coming in at exactly the right moments in battles where we assume the characters are as good as dead

Ichigo gets special training (in the Dangai with his hollow self as father holds time back or whatever / with Squad Zero)

All the super powerful Quincies are given a Latin letter, Arrancar were given numbers

Arrancar use Spanish, Quincy use German

Comic Relief characters that are also ridiculously powerful (Neru Tu / Squad Zero)

In other words binging Fullbringer arc and then moving on to TYBW (finally) has left me very bored.

I do adore the world building in TYBW arc though

gin and rangiku drive me to madness… (BLEACH SPOILERS… i’m serious!) they knew each other when they were children in poverty in rukongai and aizen violated her soul and stole an essence of it, which was so severe she lost her memories. gin had witnessed this and her first memory after waking up is gin offering her persimmons. it’s really tragic from the start, he’s a prodigy and goes on to join the soul society and she sees all of his actions as him leaving her behind even when she becomes strong too. but everything he is doing over these lifetimes is to ‘get back’ what was taken from her even if he becomes a villain working with the man he detests. from the beginning he says, “i’ve decided. i’m going to become a shinigami and change things. so that things will end without rangiku crying”. this is not excusing his actions, but even as a character he knew he was going to become evil from start. even his zanpakto is a reflection of his soul. he sees himself as a snake.

it also must have been extra painful when her new captain was another young white haired prodigy and seeing momo become aizen’s lieutenant… momo and toshiro are younger mirrors of rangiku and gin with less traumatic history and aizen plays with them all… (i could go on abt this but i won’t)

even at the end when he is dying, he doesn’t try to make himself seem like he’s actually good, he knows that he is bad and kubo’s writing doesn’t excuse gin either. instead it is this bittersweet loss and it leaves us feeling terrible because there is no exposition describing greater motives. it is bittersweet because they were never together except for the time before as children and teens. it is bittersweet because there are so many what ifs - what if he had told rangiku, what if they could try and heal together, what if they could be happy together. when he dies, he is by himself and it’s rangiku who runs to him during battle, the only one who would ever mourn him and she still doesn’t get an explanation or any words. it’s all quite tragic really.
