Random Kanan Jarrus Headcanon
So I was messing around on YouTube when I accidentally missclicked a video that took me to a video of someone playing a Kalimba (also known as the Mbira) and if you don’t know what that is its a musical instrument made in Africa. It’s basically a piano for your thumbs and it’s honestly really cute how tiny it is.
So I was listening to the really pretty melody and I just randomly thought how nice it would be if Kanan learned how to play this.
Like he’d learn to play it after he was blinded and one of the doctors on Atollon gave it to him as a gift, and it became like a coping method for him because the music was so calming and it was great to have something to do with his hands when he wasn’t using his lightsaber, plus after his blindness he found a great appreciation for music since losing his sight.
During those six months isolating himself he’d just absently pick at the thing, (while those cut Dokma’s crawled over him and he sat cross legged) because he had nothing else to do.
A couple times Hera commented on how good he was getting at it and he said it probably would sound better if he could see the keys and knew where they were. And the mood shifted awkwardly after that
He then stopped playing for a while when he felt his emotions getting worse, his fight with Ezra making it more difficult.
Once he and Ezra patchd things up, Kanan starts playing again and this time Ezra comes over and just watches him play. Sometimes, after a while of him just strumming his thumbs on keys, Kanan would feel Ezra’s head fall against his shoulder and Kanan would smile
Kanan started to play the Kalimba more around the Ghost to where all the crew, especially Hera and Ezra, enjoyed the melodies Kanan would create.
Whenever Ezra would have a bad day. Kanan wouldn’t hesitate to play it and also was happy to teach Ezra when the kid asked to learn to.
When Kanan dies, Ezra finds the Kalimba I’m his room and plays it, while his tears hit the wood.
After Ezra blasts himself and Thrawn off, he’d pick at the keys to calm himself down when things got too overwhelming, and Thrawn found then object to be fascinating
And then when Sabine and Ahsoka bring Ezra back, Ezra plays a melody to Jacen, the same one their dad played the both of them, and in turn began to teach Jacen as well.
