We finally made it to Guadalupe Mountains and tackled the highest peak in Texas. 8.2 miles, almost 3,000 feet of elevation, no shade, and the most incredible view at the top. Full post up now, link in bio!

Stars - April 2025 I had hoped to get some really good star images while we were here, but the constant wind and fine sand creates a haze even when the sky looks clear. I took a ton of star images and selected these four. The first image is the Little Dipper. The second is (I think) Orion. The third image is just a bunch of stars that I should actually know. And the last image either has an airplane track up the middle of it, or I capture a line of StarLink satellites as they passed over. MWM
Sunset - April 2025 There is always very fine sand in the air around Quartzsite. It gets things dirty, but it does give beautiful sunsets. The image captures the sun just before it sinks behind the hills. I also made a very short video, but couldn’t post it here on Tumblr for some reason. Here is the link to that video:

Quartzsite - April 2025 We have been to Quartzsite many times. Usually we come in early April before it gets to unbearably hot. This year we came in late April. We camp out on Plomosa Road at a huge BLM (Bureau of Land Management) area. During the winter, there are hundreds, if not thousands of Rvs camped out here. There were only a half dozen or so when we got here. It is nice enough in the morning for me to go out for long bicycle rides. These four images are from that ride. The first shows us camped. The next two show the beautiful, but barren views of the area. MWM
Challenge 124: Road Trip: BLM Camping at Joshua Tree National Park
How fitting this challenge should end on the last day of my most recent trip. It all started with a trip to Joshua Tree National Park where I spent the first night in a BLM camp. It was way easier than I thought and I had a blast exploring the park during the day and camping for free right outside at night! Joshua Tree wasn’t high on my list for National Parks but I was really surprised at how much I LOVED the different cacti, rock formations, birds and bugs. It was an amazing trip. I’ve included a small close up of my favorite part of this illustration the Cholla Cactus from the Cholla Cactus Garden was one of the coolest cacti I’ve seen in person. It looked fluffy from far away but obviously was covered in needles. So much fun!
