Blocking anon asks doesn't do what you think it does.
In fact, it appears to do nothing at all.
I saw a post circulating recently that advised that anyone receiving anon harassment should just block the anon. Then Tumblr's servers would recognize the IP address that the anon was sent from & would prevent that user from sending future anon asks to you but would not block actually the sender.
Blocking anon asks does NOT prevent the IP address of the sender from sending you future anons.
The person spreading this "solution" to addressing harassing anons was just spreading misinformation.
I've tested this, and you should test it yourself. It's very easy--see screen captures below the cut.
***UPDATE 2024-07-26: Blocking from browser appears to work after all. See the reblog comments here and the comments behind this post for details.
***UPDATE 2024-07-28: Blocking anon only works if the sender is using the same Tumblr account each time. If they send anon asks from another account, they are still able to get through. So I suppose it depends on how tenacious the malicious party is (they could have many alternate/separate accounts). It's great that anon blocks work, but only if the hateful party stops harrassing you by NOT creating/using separate accounts. You may be blocking anon often/repeatedly even if it's just one person sending you hate.
