Old jokes live on...
Back in the XBOX360 days, there began a joke achievement for killing an arbitrarily high number of zombies.
Dead Rising (2006) started it. This was the population of the fictional town where the game is based, meaning you've wiped out a number of zombies equivalent to everyone in town. (Note: This was renamed Zombie Annihilator in the remaster, presumably due to the "edgy" joke usage of genocide)
Left 4 Dead (2008) upped the ante; one more zombie, and a jokey twist on the achievement name:
Prototype (2009) went for one more, I guess just to feel included:
Dead Rising 2 (2010) even referenced L4D in their next one (and ignored Prototype's +1, ouch):
And Left 4 Dead 2 (2009) "clapped back" as they say. The count has increased twice due to Dead Rising 3 and 4 having an achievement for killing 53,597 and 53,598 zombies - this achievement was added in a 2016 later update.
Five years later, Back 4 Blood (2021) picked up the old trend, making the number hit an even 53,600. (No joke in the name though. This is predictable because B4B let me down in every way possible. Edit: I realized it does have a joke - "Riddence" because the zombies are called Ridden. Sure.)
Finally, The Anacrusis (2023) gave it a good addition after adding achievements in 2025. Which is the whole reason I remembered this joke and decided to create this blog post.
Despite its very "of its time" humor, this jokey back-and-forth does bring me some nostalgia. I'll have to check if the upcoming co-op zombie games John Carpenter's Toxic Commando (2026) or 4:LOOP (TBD) end up upping the ante. 🔪

Here, we have a perfect example of foreshadowing. In this post, Sigmund states that, no, he will not be romancing demons. Later in the series he TOTALLY romances a demon hot mama humina
here we have a perfect example of foreshadowing. sinclair establishes three things. these three things are the ones that will get proven wrong
- im not gonna romance a demon hot mama
- im not a dilf
- im not a silly billy who just impulsively charges into things
