An obese man was advised by his doctor to exercise and lose weight. But he turned a deaf ear to the suggestions. He had a little daughter. One day, his daughter came home crying from school. When asked the reason, she told that her best friend’s name has been struck off from the rolls of the school. Apparently, her father had died and her school fees hadn’t been paid for many months.
This set the obese man thinking. What would happen if he were to die one day? Would his daughter too be shunted out of school? The thought itself was too terrible for him. He knew he was at constant risk of various diseases because of his weight. He decided to do something immediately. From them on, he set a weight goal for himself and started exercising as advised by the doctor. He now had a purpose, and he went about doing everything for it.
Soon he had started losing weight. Not only was he feeling more secure, he was also feeling more confident and cheerful. By giving him a purpose, the goal had changed him as a purpose.
Now, I wouldn’t share a random story with you on my blog unless it was something completely out of the box story.
You would have very well understood the theme that I will be writing about now.
How important is goal setting for you? Oh wait… Have you ever even thought of setting a goal for yourself?
The young generation that I teach nowadays has forgotten the important of setting goals in life. They feel it’s just another way of pressurising themselves and then facing disappointment. What they don’t realise is that just by setting goals, they are making the best out of their life and growing day by day.
Why is setting goals important?
It adds purpose to your life
The feeling on accomplishing a goal is of another level
You are always on the right track
You make the best of what you can
You know which direction to head to
Success will be in your favour
Makes you feel happy and enthusiastic
Goals will keep you going…
I can go on and on with this list…
Along with setting worthy goals, comes the effort to accomplish those goals. The obese man in the story didn’t just think of losing weight, but also started working towards his set goal.
My students find their holidays boring… ever wondered why? It’s because they have nothing to do but to sit watch tv, Netflix or chat on whatsapp. Will this help them grow in life? Now if I give those very same students a holiday project with a dead line, they will have a goal to work towards and to finish it. I would not get an answer from them saying holidays were boring; they would definitely come back to me saying, “Ma’am, we were doing the project you had given us.”
Goal setting can be for long term or short term. Few people are so confident and clear about what they want in life that they have already set goals for themselves and are working towards it. Now, for those who have to tune themselves for goal setting, you can do it by simply making a ‘To Do List’ on daily basis. Write the things that you have decided to do today or tomorrow and you keep finishing your tasks for the day, keep striking them off. The feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment as you strike off each thing on your list is just amazing!
Such simple things make a huge difference in your life which you may not realise today, but when you start seeing results, you will agree to what I am saying right now. Every successful person today had set a goal to achieve and that kept them going till they achieved success.
Setting a practical goal for yourself is your only way of growing in life and making it useful.
if you don’t believe me… then these quotes are for you
