I’m constantly in search of official art of Asura... please... I wanna see them in high quality...

(Not specifically a blue dragon blog btw... just... just wanna share one of my favourite series’ art TvT )

The idea of of Nene being an 'playable character' and ally in Blue Dragon Plus is one I find completely wild simply because of the stark contrast to his role the original Blue Dragon game.

He's murdered hundreds, perhaps thousands of people depending on your population estimates and he shows no remorse.

Yes a lot of his villainy is semi 'off screen' but still. He used the Land Shark to murder Kluke's parents. There is a woman mourning in Jibral Castle Town for her lover who his floods swept away. There are graves in Devour Village; the Eat-Yeet ate Sahlia's parents.

And these are just characters whose tragedies are named. He has set disasters on the world for 10 years and laughed.

I've never played Blue Dragon Plus so maybe I missed something. Maybe the world was ending and they needed his help. Maybe they were only on the same side while their lives were literally on the line. I don't know, but regardless I doubt that they explored the complicated feelings and morality that would come from fighting alongside a person who is likely, in a literal sense, both the worst person and the worst criminal that you know.

10 Cool BD facts (video games) (may contain spoilers)

Neither Nene's nor Sahilia's names are said in their introductory cutscenes.

Until the end of Disc 2, Shu is literally unable to use the "flee" command in battle (it doesn't even appear as an option), because he "won't give up."

Fushira is the only playable character in the first game to not have a shadow.

Disc 2 is the only disc where all the main characters start out with having shadows. It's also the only disc to have a bad ending.

Himiko (a character who makes her first official debut in Plus) is foreshadowed in the first game, via the accessories Himiko's ring and Himiko's earring.

In terms of the first game, the first person to speak is a random Talta Village resident, whilst the last are Shu and Jiro simultaneously (not counting when characters speak at the same time, it would make Kluke the last person to speak in the game).

The custom protagonist from Awakened Shadow actually has an official name (different for the male and female versions) though I can't remember what it is. I'll update once I find out.

The original and Plus both received official game guide books made by Prima Games but Awakened Shadow didn't (this may be because it's less popular than the first two games).

Despite being the last main protagonist to be introduced, Zola is the fourth to speak (because of the whole "Swallow the spheres." thing).

Alamaru Village, Baroy Town, Kelaso Village, the Sheep Tribe Camps (forest and Lal mountains ones) and the Mecha Robo Cube are the only residential locations in the game to not be attacked/cursed by Nene.

Blue Dragon Plus: Box Art Comparisons and Opinions (part 2/3)

Yesterday, I made a post discussing my opinions on the various box arts for the first Blue Dragon game. Today, in part 2, I'll be doing the same for its first sequel, Blue Dragon Plus.

JPN

From what I can tell, this time (unlike with the first game) the JPN version doesn't share a cover with the PAL version. With the PAL and US covers being slightly different as well.

Anyway.

Things I like:

The way the Dragon's tail is holding the "Plus".

The yellow background is an improvement over the boring white from the original, and is also not too saturated.

How all the Shadows are circling around the logo.

Blue Dragon being in the middle lets people know that its the Shadow of the main protagonist (that being Shu of course).

The fact each Shadow is doing their own separate pose and expression (it gives them some character).

Things I don't like:

I feel as if too many Shadows are on here, I think a few of them (like Szabo's) should have been surprise reveals.

Shu's absence: I understand that this cover is showing off all the Shadows, but seeing as Shu is the main character, I feel as if they should have incorporated him somewhat.

Ultimately, a very good front cover with very few flaws.

US:

I'm 99% sure this is the US box art. If it isn't, can someone in the notes please correct me? So I can correct this post. Thank you.

Anyway.

Things I like:

It's an illustration (as opposed to the cool-looking but ultimately inaccurate CGI models).

The Dragon's pose is identical to the JPN cover (you gotta love consistency).

Things I don't like:

Once again, Shu (the literal main character) isn't present on the cover of his own game.

There's way too much negative space, (there are at least a few places where empty space could be filled up).

The Dragon in the middle hardly pops out (the JPN cover managed to do this just fine despite it being the same pose).

The boring, white background has returned (now even more souless due to all the negative space).

Ultimately, this cover isn't the best and is quite weak.

PAL cover

Things I like:

There's no negative space.

The Dragon Shadow being portrayed as a literal Shadow is a cool and unique take, as usually he's all in your face in his full glory.

The relationship between Shu and Blue Dragon is ,once again, shown perfectly.

Shu's expression is also fitting for his personality here, (and it's nice to see him happy as well).

The white background HAS returned, but this time I actually like its inclusion as it places emphasis on the literal Dragon Shadow, making him stand out more.

I like how minimalist it is, there's not too much detail that could confuse the observer.

Things I don't like:

The logo is a bit too small (I get that they did this so they could fit the image in, but I honestly think making the logo just a tad larger wouldn't have really gotten in the way of the illustration.

The Dragon appears twice on the cover (imo, once is enough).

Welp, that concludes Part 2. My favourite cover is ,once again, the PAL one. And my least favourite is, once again, the US one. Tomorrow, I'll be looking at the single cover of Awakened Shadow (it only has one cover illustration across all regions). So I guess it'll be less of a comparison and more of a single review lol.
