Party Member Backstory and Personality Differences Between The Xbox 360 Game and Anime

(Minor spoilers for both)

Okay so, when the BD anime was released, a lot of the characters who reappeared in the anime were given different personalities compared to their debut game counterparts. In this post, I will just be going over the main five, (Bouquet doesn't count because she doesn't exist in the games).

Shu:

Shu isn't changed as much compared to a lot of the characters but he still feels different. I would say the anime version of Shu comes across as slightly dumber and less experienced but that makes sense because he's a few years younger. Also, maybe this is just me, but his game version feels a tad more edgy and serious to me. Not by much but a little.

Jiro:

Jiro was changed loads when it came to the anime. In the game, he grew up in Talta Village and is Shu's childhood friend, neither of which are the case in the anime. Another notable thing is that his parents are still alive in the game and he never even had a sister.

His actual personality is drastically different too. In the game, he is the nerdy character in the group who is generally quite caring to others. His anime counterpart is a very angry person due to trauma and takes a while to open up to the others in the group and he is focused more on physical strength than being a healer.

Kluke:

Kluke is another character who is changed a lot. Both versions have dead parents though that aspect is a lot more prominent in her original version from the game. Her game version is generally quite mature whilst also being quite traumatised and has a habit of hiding her genuine feelings a lot of the time. Meanwhile, the Kluke in the anime feels kind of like a tsundere-type character to me and her personality is a bit more stereotypically feminine imo but not by much.

I will at least say that Season 2 Kluke feels a little closer to her game version.

Marumaro:

Both versions of Marumaro are strong believers of justice and act as comic relief. The method of comedy is different though. Game Marumaro has this sense of childlike innocence and shouts almost everything he says. Anime Marumaro talks at a normal volume and feels more likehis age though he does have perverted tendencies in the Sub and uncensored versions.

Zola:

Zola's general personality is pretty similar across both versions. The only thing I would say is that her anime version is a bit more talkative and extroverted.

I'm not gonna delve too much into either versions' backstory because both Zolas are, let's just say, interesting, plot wise.

This post was a bit rushed but I hope I've done a decent job at explaining the differences between the characters' versions.

I grew up with Blue Dragon anime and I was thinking of maybe rewatching it but I saw your post about differences between anime and the game, how much were personalities of main cast different?

Very. And I mean very. The versions in the game compared to the anime feel like completely different characters with maybe some vague similarities. I will say that Zola doesn't feel that different and maybe Shu too. The others are definitely quite different though.

I would say that Jiro and Kluke are the most different.

I can make a follow up going over the differences in personality between the games and anime if you'd like it.

My writing changes for BD DISC 1

Just a lil post showing what changes I'd make in BD's story or scenes only for disc one tho,the two other disc will get similar post later.

For disc 1: when the land shark knocks shu out of the way he falls unconscious instead,upon seeing kluke (and jiro) by his side he gets right back up and ignores the two other than quickly saying "kluke get outta here and jiro,make sure the trap is set!"

When the party meet nene and szabo for the first time,szabo lifts shu with his hand and simply holds him up in the air to stop shu from attacking nene,this means nene' shadow isn't revealed until a little later (this also makes the player think nene has no shadow powers)

When nene is done with the trio and orders szabo to take them away,shu tries to fight szabo before he blocks shu and pushes him off instead of simply throwing him off

when the trio first get their shadows they stuggle to control their shadows albeit only showing slight difficulty doing so

during the introduction for marumaro he actually lands a hit on shu with saber tiger,this causes shu to say "thats it!" And the fight begins

when the gang arrive back at talta to see it ruined and destroyed there would be a scene of kluke explaining to marumaro what happens to their village throughout the years she would quickly stop explaining and tells maro thats shes said everything he needs to know, when maro goes to catch up with shu and jiro,the camera cuts to a single tear forming in kluke's eye (remembering her parents)

when the gang see the talta village residents being attacked by the tigers fushira is now on the floor trying to wrestle off a tiger before shu jumps in to assist (I think that would make his entrance a bit more dramatic 😂)

when the gang assist king jibral in infiltrating nene's fortress nene would be shown in the cutscene visibly smirking at their attempt to challenge him

when nene tells szabo to deal with the intruders,szabo calls nene an moron behind his back (in this take szabo throughout the game would talk smack about nene behind his back)

The four demon kings all try to attack szabo when he enters the room with them locked up,they'd all be screaming and clawing at him in a more violent way

:Shu and maro start off hating each other but slowly form their brotherly bond overtime

:Szabo shows small signs of rebelling against nene

:nene's shadow is kept more secret in this take and isn't actually shown until disc two's finale

:Shu is generally more impatient in this take,he learns to be more patient later on during the devour village segment since thats when his character arc happens

My Opinion On Every Blue Dragon Dungeon (Disc Two)

It's been a while since the last part, so I figured I should make part two already. Also, seeing as I always do the Gorgo Giants sidequest in Disc 2, their dungeons will be included as part of this list.

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS (I know it's an old game, but a lot of people haven't played it still)

Let's begin, fellas

Treasure Storehouse:

This dungeon is a bit interesting with the whole trapfloor mechanic containing the secret underground section and the fact you have to follow Zola's light the whole time. Jeelala and the Gorgo Giants are also a decently fun fight as well. Although the actual dungeon is pretty short so you don't get much out of it.

Exile Forest-Caverns:

This place is literally a small corridor and a pretty easy boss fight. The secrets you can find if you choose to return here later on are cool, but otherwise, this dungeon doesn't really have much to it.

Laser Field:

The actual dungeon itself is just kind of average for me, but the one spot where you can grind due to the infinitely spawning Flying Needle Moles gives it extra points. Also, the moon lasers are a decent obstacle, I guess.

Underground River:

This dungeon is pretty cool tbh. The abundance of enemies makes it a great grinding spot, the secret boss in the form of the Moody Dragon is a part of my favourite boss sidequest in the game and the Destroy mural on the wall is another good bit of foreshadowing. I also just generally like the vibe.

Ancient Factory:

This place has some nice aspects to it. The multiple corridors, the large room with the winding ramp, the conveyor belts etc. It's definitely one of the better dungeons in Disc 2.

Ancient Prison:

This dungeon feels like it should be more epic than it actually is. The whole concept is supposed to be a prison breakout, but it honestly feels a bit underwhelming ngl. It's decent enough, though. The fight against the War Mecha Robos is definitely the highlight.

Pachess Town-Underground:

This place isn't anything special. It's essentially a shorter version of the Ancient Factory but with a more 'haunted' vibe to it. The Scything Skull Spider is a really cool boss, though. Peak monster design fr.

Nene's Fortress:

This is peak Disc 2. The music slaps, and the challenges at the end of each floor are all really fun (except maybe the moon lasers and Yasato). Also, the totally real (trust me) timer helps to add pressure, which makes the dungeon have a greater sense of challenge. It's also made better from the story context it exists in.

So yeah, that's it. Nene's Fortress is definitely my favourite but I also really like Ancient Factory and Underground River.

My writing changes for BD DISC 2

Just a lil post showing what changes I'd make in BD's scenes for disc two,I will be focusing on the main story. Alumaru village will not be a part of my rewrite since it's a sidequest.

:When the gang first see the moon laser fire off,shu says "what's going on here?" In this version jiro would add "it has to be nene! maybe he created the moon lasers with ancient technology?"

:once they escape the moon lasers and follow the robot hand into the bunker leading to baroy,in this version after zola says "I can feel it,we're being watched" and after shu notices yasato in the corner of the corridor,yasato will try and approach them saying "please,there is no need for alarm" but shu tackles him to the floor before yasato runs off,in the actual game shu does tackle yasato to the floor,but only after yasato runs away and says nothing,this rewrite is meant to show how welcoming the baroy robots want to be to their first ever guest in ages a little bit earlier

:The scene where hineto throws the party out of the temple is now altered so he throws shu out last but not before saying to shu "out of all you people,this one is the most annoying" and then he throws shu onto the floor,the rest of the scene plays as normal

:during the scene where the ancient factory is reactivated and the mecha robos awaken,the first line of them is rusty and falls apart upon walking,the newly made mecha robos push the older ones out of the way,this is meant to show the age of the factory and how the machines that were finished got rusty and old,with the newly built mechas showing the factory itself still makes machines of war in top condition

:The malfunctioning defense mecha robo simply breaks apart upon its failed attempt to power up it's shield and explodes,this skips an easy and imo Unnecessary fight,but the explosion calls the attention of eight defense mecha robos and you fight them instead,jiro would simply pick up the barrier device before the battle,jiro would comment "perhaps if I get this working,we can deactivate their shields to?"

:When the gang confront nene in the ancient prison,before the war mecha robos attack nene would say "if you surrender,I'll call them off,a simple choice that doesn't require much thought,what do you say?" And shu will respond "no way,I won't give up!" To which nene finishes with "so be it"

:A small change but when shu has blue dragon attack the green barrier in pachess town,he punches the barrier multiple times instead of only doing it once

:The encounter with the scything skull spider in the pachess town underground now has dialogue before the battle,the scything skull spider appears as normal and now speaks before battling you,saying "foolish mortals,leave this place or suffer the pain of death!" Then the battle begins *cue eternity 😂*

:A new scene where we see the silhouettes of szabo and the demon kings laughing and watching the party advance through the nene's fortress,they can be heard saying "revenge..."

:when the gang encounters grand szabo and the demon kings again,each demon king has a line before battle in the cutscene,silent ku would say "you can't keep silent ku down for long",kesu would say "this time! You,die!!!",heat-wave sai would say "heheh,I'm sure to win with my power and pals at my disposal!" And mai would say "if this szabo's last stand,then our determination will be greater than yours!"

:During the final scene of disc two when nene regains his power and youth instead of jumping into his squashtrich mech (personally I think that kinda ruins the scene a little) he summons chimera and attempts to crush the party with chimera instead,finally showing the player chimera and confirms nene has shadow powers to,shu escapes as normal tho by warping him and the party to Devour village.

:if I had to make another rewrite tho,I'd definitely have shu be kidnapped by nene instead and this would allow kluke to take the main role,we could also see how the supporting casts would act around each other without shu there,I know kluke,jiro,marumaro and zola are classed as main characters but it's obvious shu gets more attention than all of them.

This is a really good post. I don't agree with every change but most of them make sense.

My favourite ones are the Scything Skull Spider having dialogue before you fight it and Nene using Chimera rather than the Squastrich.

Slight writing difference in Blue Dragon where the player learns that Zola is working for Nene much earlier on (maybe in early to mid disc 2 or something). The rest of the party isn't made aware until near the end as usual, and the player has to spend a large portion of the game wondering when the other characters will find out.

My Opinion On Every Dungeon in Blue Dragon (Disc One)

It's been a while since since I've done a BD post and I've had this idea for a while. Anyway, let's begin.

Lot Wilderness: A decent first dungeon. It does a good job of introducing you to the game's mechanics and the fact it's a desert is cool. Flamboyant Dinoram is also a pretty fun first boss.

Drill Machine: This dungeon gameplay-wise isn't too interesting but it does introduce you to a lot of elements that later become staples in the game, (specifically Marumaro and the servant robots). The Winking Patroller fight is quite fun and you also unlock the warping mechanic here which is definitely a plus.

Ancient Hospital Ruins: This place is one my favourites as everything about it blends so well. The spooky atmosphere, the enemies, the slight puzzle aspect with getting the lift to work. It's also decently long but not ridiculously so which is also great. The boss has a cool design and I like its mechanic.

Undersea Caverns: This one is quite linear but I think this is where you first find transformation chests and I always thought they were cool. Hydrattler isn't my favourite boss but there are worse ones. Also, this place is gorgeous. The water in particular looks incredible.

Forest of the Dead: The fact this dungeon feels like a complete contrast from the previous is very clever, imo. Anyway, this is another great one. The drab atmosphere combined with the thick poisonous fog makes this place have a very interesting vibe. King Ghost is certainly a fun fight. Btw, you can actually walk straight through the fog but at the cost of everyone's HP, I prefer to just get rid of it though.

Gul Mountains: This is the first dungeon that I actively dislike. The design is fine but I was never a fan of the maze-like quality it had. Also, I don't know why but this dungeon always felt like filler even though it's in the main story. One redeeming thing about this place is that you can later return here to fight the Spark Dragon but other than that it isn't anything special.

Mural Valley: This is another area I really enjoy. The mere concept of living murals is cool as hell and I absolutely love their designs. The bridge mechanic is interesting, a new type of transformation chest is unlocked and the Flame Raptor is pretty cool as it has two weaknesses, with there being different pros and cons depending on which one you use.

Flying Fortress: What an incredible end to this disc. The Demon King bosses are some of my favourites in the whole game, successfully shutting down the Eternal Engines feels rewarding and the mechat chase against Nene at the end is one of my favourite sequences in the game. There is one thing about this dungeon I don't like though, that being the Szabo fight. Compared to the Demon King fights, it just feels underwhelming.

So yeah, that's it. I didn't do the Ancient Ruins-Caverns because I see that more as a prologue-y, tutorial area than an actual dungeon. My favourites would have to be the Ancient Hospital, Mural Valley and Flying Fortress.

Disc Two will either be tomorrow or the day after.

Hello. Szabo is a very cool antagonist whose more serious personality is a great contrast from Nene's as he tends to get sadistic pleasure from things. His design is also one of my favourites.

Flamboyant Dinoram is a really fun first boss and it's one of my favourites.

Disc One:

Mad Eye-Talta Village (disguised as coughing peddlar)

Disc Two:

Jeelala and Gorgo Beastfolk Warriors-part of the Gorgo Giants sidequest. Located in the Treasure Storehouse in Alumaru Village

Guru-Guru and Poison Mists-part of the Gorgo Giants sidequest. Located in the Cave of Exile in the Exile Forest near Alumaru Village

Moody Dragon-Inside secret area blocked by a blue barrier wall. The player must defeat all kelelons in the area and then try to leave to get the boss to appear

Jumbo Poo-Inside the Ancient Ruins-Caverns (the entrance is blocked by a blue barrier wall)

Corrosive Poo-Inside the Ancient Ruins-Caverns. Only appears after the Jumbo Poo has been defeated

Disc Three:

Land Shark C-Found within the Ancient Forest-Ruins, located near Talta Village, only accessible via mechat

Gold Scything Skull Spider-Located on the top floor of the Mecha Base, which travels on a circular path in the Southern Giant Ice Fields. the Black Device is required to get past floor two

Azure Abyssal Dragon-Located within the deepest area of the Sea Cube. After it's beaten, two chests will spawn, one of which has the Black Device

Stonesauras-Inside the Aurora Ruins, accessible via mechat within the Heavy Snow Mountains

Ghost-Yeet-On the Eastern Deserted Island, accessible via mechat and near Alumaru Village. Can be fought an infinite number of times, you just have to leave the island, fly around a bit, and then land again

NOTE-the remaining dragon bosses only appear if the player has defeated the Moody Dragon, obtained its fang and talked to the village chief in Kelaso Village (the village is accessible via mechat in the Heavy Snow Mountains)

Amethyst Dragon-On the Coastal Road, near the rocks close to the Talta Village side

Blizzard Dragon-On a ledge near Kelaso Village

Phantom Dragon-Located in one of the corners of the Great Desert

Spark Dragon-Inside the Gul Mountains, behind a red barrier wall

King Poo-Inside the Ancient Ruins-Caverns. The player needs to have defeated the other two Poo Snake bosses, otherwise it won't appear

Gold Mecha Robo-Within the first room of the Ancient Factory, the Ultimate Weapon Bracelet, (and maybe the Final War Necklace) is/are required to get it to spawn
