breaking tumblr fast to say I FINISHED THE SHAWL

#currently being blocked right now #blue talks #blue knits #the stitch is gorgeous but i'm disappointed by the shape #overall shape #it's way too shallow of a triangle i would have preferred it to be deeper but i didn't know enough about the pattern #it was three increases every two rows so i want to do maybe 1 increase per row but i'm not sure how it would work with the lace pattern #hm #knitting

so I want to do a Celtic knot hat with my 36 peg round loom

I know how to cable on needles and the loom, I have done one repeat of a Celtic knot Saxon braid pattern to begin a scarf, I made a beautiful braided cable hat the other day on the 36 peg loom. So this shouldn’t be that hard, right?

So the Celtic knot Saxon braid pattern is 24 stitches across. Obviously that doesn’t work well with a 36 peg loom. What if I made the cables 1 over 1 instead of 2 over 2? That way the repeat is 12 stitches and I can do it 3 times around the loom. So instead of doing c4b I do c2b.

Wait, no, there’s the t3b and t3f. That involves 3 stitches total, how on earth do I divide that by 2? Maybe I can just... replace the t3b and t3f with t4b and t4f, therefore t2b and t2f?

wait, no, when I try to do this the math for the number of stitches doesn’t work out, and there are p3s and k3s I have to deal with, and when I compare the actual result to the cable chart... Fine, never mind.

wait maybe I can do it. Maybe if I look at the chart and write out what each row should look like instead...

no, I can’t.

okay, what if I got rid of the outer braids, so that there’s 4 strands instead of 6? here’s a chart that looks nice. 18*2 = 36, so I could do this, do c4f instead of trying to transpose to c2f. but... if you ignore the purl border, that’s 16 stitches, all groups of stitches are divisible by 2, there are no t3fs or t3bs, maybe I can do this after all!

I just designed my first knitting pattern (that wasn’t done on the fly lol) and it turns out that looking up “__ pixel art” is a great way to get references, as opposed to looking up “__ knitting pattern”

but we’ll see after I actually knit out this pattern

Fair Isle knitting was one of those things that I saw, thought that I really wanted to try it but it looked too difficult for now and I should work my way up to it, and... I just realized I accidentally taught myself how to do it? I didn’t realize that Fair Isle knitting is just multiple colors with patterns, not solely Nordic patterns

With the hat I just made I was struggling so much with how to carry two colors and while I figured out a system, knowing that it’s called Fair Isle knitting would have saved me a lot of stress and from tangling the yarn so much

anyways this means I’m gonna try a full-on Fair Isle knitting project with this blanket
