this cat looks like a blue tortie point based on her head and back, yet the spot on her leg looks very dark? what’s up with that?

My cat turned 8 years old this past October.. when she was a kitten she was like a perfect grey Siamese. As she got older she got random little ticks and splotches? Some of her markings I think look like a tabby cat. I don’t know what her parents looked like but I’d love to know what you consider her to be!

That's the tortie in her! Even as a kitten, you can see a bit of a brindle over her eye, and then as she darkened, the contrast between the blue and the cream became more apparent. She's a blue tortoiseshell point.

My two kitties (from the same litter!). Lulu, the female/calico, has blue cross-eyes that vibrate constantly, and she was much lighter as a kitten (don't have any pics from then though :( she was mostly white however and the patches came in as she aged) so some people think she's a point? But idk.

And I've never known what Earl is lol, the male/dark cat.

interesting combination! i think lulu might be a blue tortoiseshell self colourpoint with low white, and earl is most likely a blue self! very very cute and very interesting genetically!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but do cat colours "layer" in a specific way? As in, on the coat, do colours overlap with other colours? In what order? Sorry if you've already answered this before

I'm not sure i understand what are you asking. Do you mean it like combining colors? As in, say, chocolate+smoke? In that case sure, you can combine as many colors as you like. But that's not exactly layers, just a cat that's chocolate and smoke at the same time.

Consider a blue tortie point.

We can argue if this is three or four "layers", but let's disregard the tabby/solid part for now, and see how can we go from solid black to blue tortie point. We have to add three traits (blue aka dilute, tortoiseshell and point). Any order works, the end result will be the same:

I don't think any kind of order except maybe the order of epistasis can be established between colors. For example red can be considered "above" the brown and the extension genes because it's epistatic over them (when a cat is red, these genes doesn't affect the phenotype).

Can you help identify my cat? I believed her to be a siamese but every time i learn something new i doubt that more. She's of normal or applehead shape, with a coat that seems like a lilac point but with a dark tail and warm-tomed back. She also either has vitiligo or is a little bit of a tortie- white/pink spotting is present on her face, back, and paws only. Eyes are pale blue and reflect red. She seems to have a double coat? All of her fur is extremely fine and soft, about an inch long on her body, but when examined closely some hairs are straight and some are frizzy. She is moderately hypoallergenic.

Siamese is an unfortunate word, because it's the name of a breed (or arguably two breeds, to make everything even more confusing), and often used for a coloration, too: people will call any pointed cats siamese regardless of ancestry.

All to say: more than likely your cat isn't siamese breed, but a randombred pointed cat. It's not that rare of a color.

Without a picture it's hard to guess the base color, but the most likely options are black and blue tortie. Vitiligo is very rare, and a gradual whitening process, if she always had those spots, tortie is way more likely.

Hello! Yeah, I think this is a tortie point, too! Blue tortie, even. So her color is the combination of solid, pointed, diluted and tortoiseshell (everything else is wild type - well maybe except the masked tabby pattern genes): aa cscs dd Oo ww. Very recessive.
