Bryony: A kid at soft play asked about our family, and I told her Veil had 2 mums. She immediately said “Why not 3?” and honestly it’s a great question, will talk to Bluefen about it tonight.

"oh! I'm so happy to see you up and about! How are you feeling? Lunch will be served soon! Come and sit with Togget and I if you're feeling up to it. How is the little one?"

Au in which Bluefen survives childbirth but is sickly and is left behind with veil after Swartt is attacked as she couldn't keep up
She and Bryony become girlfriends because bryony is the only redwaller that isn't suspicious of her and raise veil together. Bluefen adjusts to abbey life well enough, veil is still a little bitch (affectionate) but turns out slightly better off
This lady was the subject of baby's first fix-it fic back before I even knew fanfic was a thing. Kind of ridiculous looking back, but even now I just really love minor characters. Decided to try my hand at drawing her again because Outcast is still living in my head rent-free, and even I'll admit my art's improved since I was a kid.
Bluefen: You told me he died!
Swartt: Well, there’s an explanation. I'm a really terrible person, and I left him in the woods to die.
Sitting here like "Mmn, she's only got so long left to go..." Because I went and got super attached to/protective of Bluefen all over again.
Yanno, an essay could probably be written on how my overwhelming need to save one singular extremely minor character in a kid's book back when I was ten or eleven has shaped me as a person. But I don't have the skill or words to do that.
Every now and then it's like I become immensely obsessed with Faramir or intensely protective of Bluefen, or extremely fascinated with Grievous's legends backstory all over again, and my brain's just madly buzzing away. I cannot control these things.
22 years later, and looking back, I still find myself overly protective of, and irrationally angry for Bluefen. All because apparently even eight-year-old-me got super attached to random background characters.
