Why is this glacier ice at Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska blue?

Glacier ice is blue because the red (long wavelengths) part of white light is absorbed by ice. The blue (short wavelengths) light is transmitted and scattered. The longer the path that light travels in ice, the more blue it appears! The more you know 🌈 🎵

This ice cave was in Svínafellsjökull outlet glacier, shot on the 11th of January 2013. The glacier has now receded back so much that this place doesn’t exist any more, it’s just gravel and sand with water. The edge of the glacier lies way back. There is no doubt in my mind that Global climate is changing fast. We see the extremes everywhere.
