"I can't believe it. A fire has struck Urufushine Shrine, one of Nabari's most prominent shrines and one of the shrines listed in the Engi Shiki. According to the news the main hall was completely destroyed, and the worship hall was partially damaged. Apparently the main hall in the third photo was completely reduced to ashes. I visited there four years ago during Golden Week. I never imagined something like this happening..."

There have been quite a few major fires breaking out at temples and shrines this year in Japan :(((

The main kami at this shrine is called Unane no Mikoto 宇奈根命, and is a kami of water and grains. And apparently the name comes from the original Goshintai, a red rock that was located near a bend in the river, with the word for Bending/Undulating being Uneru→Unane. It's also said the shrine's name comes from similar links to water, roughly meaning "Moistening Water" [x]
