A sample animation based on an hour long convo between Bluestermind and I. Just wanted to see if you all like it. So what do you guys think? Should I make more?
Did a thing for my loving twin, bluestermind. I love you, big brother! >w<
hi! i currently have an F in math, and my teacher only plays games during class rather than giving us notes. I'm a freshman in highschool and it really bothers me that i already have an F and its only the first quarter. Any advice on how i can talk to her?
hi! first of all, you can click here to see my general advice for trying to raise a low/failing grade.
in terms of talking to your teacher, it sounds like she’s a real nightmare, yikers. sorry you have to put up with such an ineffective teaching approach.
i don’t know what your specific situation is, as in what kind of relationship you have with her, what kind of person she is, etc, but here’s some general advice.
i would arrange a meeting with her at a time where you know neither of you will be in a rush. it won’t be a long conversation, but talking to a teacher in the 2 minutes between classes is never a good idea because you’re both distracted trying to collect yourself and get places on time.
main points i would bring up:
acknowledge: i really want to do well in the class, and i know that i’m struggling grades wise.
ask for feedback: off the bat, have you noticed any areas where you think i could improve as a math student/places i’m losing a lot of points on tests/homework? (ex. not showing work, arithmetic errors, algebra knowledge)if she pinpoints one major weakness, make a note of that so you can keep it in mind when seeking extra help.
propose/ask about a solution: do you think i would benefit from a tutor? or could you and i meet once a week/as needed outside of class? could you give me extra notes from the textbook so i can learn more outside of the classroom?if she seems totally oblivious and unhelpful, then don’t pay too much attention to her responses to these kinds of questions.
if she doesn’t give a very helpful response, then these are the measures i would recommend:
get a tutor, depending on how much you can afford
ask another teacher, whether a past teacher or just one that you know who’s good at math, if they’d be willing to meet afterschool sometime to go over stuff
ask your friends, but make sure that 1. they’re a good teacher/explain things in a way that works for you and 2. you won’t be distracted by them.
ask the smart kid in class. no, seriously. it may be awkward but if they seem like a relatively nice person, i highly recommend this. last year i struggled in calc, and finally one day i just asked the best student in the class for her number, and started texting her for help. it was SUPER useful, so i’d say give that a shot.
make study groups with friends or classmates. you can also reference study-ings directory. whether it’s the library after school or skype sessions, whatever works for you. just make sure you’re with people who are focused, inspired to work, and take things seriously, and that have some grasp of the topic.
look online. i actually found youtube to be very helpful during midterms/math class. usually just searching whatever the unit is yielded some pretty good results. there’s also khan academy, but to be honest some of the other videos i found were even more helpful.
i’m pretty good at algebra, but i’m not good at geometry or trig, so if that’s what you’re doing for freshman math then i’m afraid i’m no help!
hope those suggestions are useful, let me know how it goes :)

Just a little video of venting with me and bluestermind with the occasional jumpscare. XD
