Blue Teapot Performing Arts School Students Graduate
Thursday 24th November 2016: Today, seven exceptional students of Blue Teapot’s Performing Arts School graduate in a ceremony held in the G Hotel with QQI Level 3 awards. Blue Teapot’s performing arts school runs a stand-alone programme, the only one of its kind in Ireland specifically for adults with intellectual disabilities.
Founded 2010, the Performing Arts School is a three year accredited training programme in creative & performing arts modules leading to certification in QQI awards. The course has set a standard for others to follow and it has created a programme to inspire those that are passionate about performing arts and above all it encourages, embraces and nurtures creativity. Amongst the modules achieved are drama, music, costume design, theatre craft, event participation, communications and drawing.
Representing the Class of 2016, graduate Amy Clarke spoke from the podium and articulated “It helped me get over the shyness that I had. Doing the course gave me confidence, because I hope to become an actor”.
Speaking at the graduation, Petal Pilley, CEO & Artistic Director said, “The impetus to establish Blue Teapot Performing Arts School came directly from observing that audiences confused a lack of training with disability. At the time I saw that there were no opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to attend mainstream drama schools, no educational pathways available that could provide equal opportunities to acquire skills in the performing arts. It was a no brainer the school was born! The aim of the performing arts school is to inspire students to fulfil their creative potential and live a meaningful life in the arts.
“One such student is Maitiú Quinn who comes from Westport whose parents supported his desire to attend the Performing Arts School for three years in Galway. They rented an apartment for him and took it in turns to spend a week on and off In Galway for the duration of his training. Today he graduates. Since September Maitiú has been attending a mainstream art college in Westport which his mum says he would never have had the confidence to do prior to his journey through the performing arts school.”
Jack King, father of Aoife King commented on the change in Aoife, “Blue Teapot is exceptional in the way they helped all the students, by educating them it helped them grow but at the same them allow them to have so much fun and interaction. It is just fantastic that Aoife and her colleagues will move onto the next stage within the performing arts”.
Amongst the guests speakers present at the graduation were His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr. Noel Larkin and Fiona O’Loughlin, Adult Education Officer for Galway Roscommon Education Training Board who handed out the certificates to the proud recipients.

I never really got that trope from Daine’s choice, because from what I remember, being a goddess had draw backs that she was like hmm tempting but not for me….. But it’s been awhile. It was the big premise of the last book I guess? Now I need to rr
That’s pretty much how it always is, though. It’s a narrative trope, not a characterization one.
The human/super-specialness can’t co-exist, at least not to the extent that they do, and so the character must choose, and of course they choose human because they’re fundamentally human. It’s not that Daine didn’t choose to be a goddess when she could have--she never was one in the first place, so that’s not renunciation. What she had to renounce was demigoddesshood, being a human touched by the divine: no matter which way she chose, she had to give that up. The narrative is constructed to force the choice.
The in-story plot/character reasons the author comes up with to justify their you-must-choose scenario are besides the point for me. I just dislike the trope.
Are you/did you watch fringe??? What do you think????
I did watch it! I actually watched it when it was airing; I think it’s the only show I’ve ever watched from beginning to end (without getting untimely cancelled) as it aired. I loved it; it did some of my favorite things (alternate universes!) and was just generally all around great.
What a dick thing to bring up tho haha we almost didn't want you!! (Never mind many dancers auditioned multiple times) Nigel's commentary is killing me
I don’t know why they like to remind themselves of their failures. Also, tacticalvillage pointed out that people who they don’t take or cut previously always end up super far. Gaby, Aaron, Jasmine, even Hailee was cut two years in a row.
