Protective In Pregnancy ~ BM
His heart swelled as soon as he walked into the apartment and saw you fast asleep on the sofa. His footsteps became much lighter as he walked in and placed his rucksack down on the coffee table, before tiptoeing over to grab one of the blankets off the sofa, draping it gently over your shoulders to try not to disturb you.
He continued to unpack himself from his day, grabbing a drink from the fridge and taking his makeup off before making his way over to the sofa. He cautiously sat himself on the floor just beside your face, running his hands through the many loose strands that had fallen during your nap.
Once your hair was neatly pushed out of the way, he shuffled a little to the left where your baby bump hung just off the edge of the sofa, resting his hand over the middle of it. A light kick could be felt as he rested over your bump, a kick big enough to disturb you. He watched on as your eyes slowly opened, surprised to see him sat in front of you.
“How are you feeling?” He asked, helping you to adjust yourself into a more comfortable position. “I bought some food from the store to make dinner, I thought you could do with a night away from the kitchen.”
“I feel alright to cook, and no offence, but I don’t think your cooking will help me feel any better,” you teased, “I’ll take a chair in or something so I can sit down whilst I’m not doing anything.”
His head quickly shook at your suggestion, as you neared the eight months mark it was about time you stopped doing all the things you usually did and made sure that you got enough rest.
“We’ll order a takeout in that case,” he stated, not even giving you the chance to argue. “That way neither of us need to worry about doing the cooking.”
Your head shook, “I’m quite capable of cooking a meal Matt.”
“You probably are, but you’re better off sitting down and resting, if you’re tired, maybe I could go and sort out a bath for you or something,” he then proposed.
As comfortable as you were, the thought of being able to soak your muscles and enjoy the warmth of a bath was too good an opportunity to miss. “I’d normally hate the fact you’re looking after me, but I wouldn’t say no to a bath right now.”
“Bath now, and then dinner in bed with a movie?”
“You’re saying all the right things right now to make me feel better.”
His smile grew, relieved to know he was doing the right thing. “I’ll head up and start running it, then I’ll come back down and help you up the stairs.”
“I can walk up a flight of stairs,” you yelled as he already made his way up to the bathroom, appearing a few moments later with the sound of the water running filling the room.
His hand wrapped around the small of your back, slowly pulling you up from the sofa and up the stairs, making sure you held tightly onto the bannister. As soon as you reached the top step, the steam from the bathroom hit you, already your muscles were crying out to step in and feel the warmth surround your body.
Matt was careful as he helped you undress whilst keeping an eye on your bath, checking it once, then again, and then one final time before he scooped you up into his strong arms and then settled you in the water, hearing you let go of a sigh of relief.
“How does that feel?” He chuckled, sitting himself down on the cabinet just to the side of the tub. He couldn’t take his eyes off your bump as it poked up through the water, a pool of bubbles surrounding it. “It still blows my mind every time that I look at you to know that there is an actual baby in there, and it’s our baby too.”
“It’s alright for you, our child decides to kick me every hour so I always know it’s there,” you laughed, covering your body with the water, stretching your legs out as best you could.
He stayed by your side the entire time, helping you to wash the parts of your body you had a little more difficulty reaching with your bump, tying your hair up when you began to sink a bit further down into the tub, and massaging over your tummy whenever your baby decided to get a bit restless.
“Shall I order food so it’s here for when you get out,” he suggested as he reached in to feel the water beginning to cool. “Any preference for what you want to have?”
“I’m happy with anything at this point, just remember I’m eating for two,” you quickly pointed out, “I could eat for an army right now with how hungry I am.”
“I think I know what this calls for, fast food?”
Immediately your eyes lit up at his suggestion, raising your arms up in the air. “You can read my mind,” you grinned, quickly listening off all the things that you wanted off the menu. “You might as well just order the entire menu to be honest, this baby is hungry.”
“Takes after its father,” Matthew teased, grabbing his phone from the pocket of his trousers. “I’ll order this now, if you’re ready to get out of the bath.”
“No, but I need to eat, so I guess the right answer now is yes.”
Once he’d ordered the food, Matt quickly stood up and offered his hands out for you to take, carefully helping you as you lifted one leg out at a time before passing you your towel. As with before, you tried your best to dry off as best you could, pouting across at him to help with the parts your bump challenged.
“I’ll go and find one of my shirts for you,” he called out as you untied the band from around your hair, “I think I’ve got a pair of tracksuit bottoms lying around too if you want to be comfy.”
Before you had chance to respond he appeared with a whole outfit for you to wear made from his things. “You’re going to have to help me change into all of this too.”
“I don’t mind, anything to make your life a little bit easier.”
If he could help you with every little thing that you did Matthew would, from the moment you fell pregnant he’d tried to be there as much as he could. Knowing that you were carrying his child made him more protective than he ever thought possible.
You couldn’t complain however, having him around so often and seeing him so willing to help you out made you fall for him even more. Seeing how big his heart was only made you more excited to see how your family would grow alongside him.
“Now, I’ve made the bed from this morning so it’s ready for you to get comfortable,” he smiled once you were changed, “I’ll hover around a bit to be able to hear the front door.”
You were far too tired to argue with him, collapsing against the mattress as soon as you were close enough, propping your pillows up so you could sit up to watch the movie.
Matt’s smile widened once he was sure you were comfortable, watching on as you placed both your hands just under your bump, defining it with the duvet.
“I really am one lucky guy,” he gently whispered.
