Hui almost killed him the first time they met,
or rather, when Hui finally found Shinwon
Because Shinwon had hacked into Hui’s computer server
So when Wooseok dragged him in to Hui, Hui was ready to cut off Shinwon’s head
BUT
after doing some research on Shinwon,
Hongseok and Jinho advised Hui that Shinwon might be more useful to them alive rather than dead.
Specifically, he’d be a pretty vital member of their gang.
Shinwon, as an only child, had always loved being on the computer
He came from an affluent family
however his parents cared more about destroying their marriage with explosive arguments and toxic cheating than caring for their only son.
So, Shinwon found comfort in being online
It was a way for him to, quite literally and figuratively, drown out his parents and their crumbling marriage.
He’d started off, for the first few years of his tweens and most of his teens, playing online video games.
And then he started taking a deep dive into the world of computers
He’d read books on coding, taught himself everything he knows
And he started hacking.
It was petty stuff at first:
hacking into off-limits websites, getting subscriptions without paying for them, finding cheats and hacks for his video games.
But then he realized that he could do more,
he could go deeper.
The first time he popped up on South Korea’s National Intelligence Service’s radar, he’d begun moving large amounts of money into his bank accounts
And then he actually hacked into the government’s files,
just because he wanted to
He’s seen more Korean government conspiracies and hidden documents than most people have seen in their lifetime
And he didn’t stop with the Korean government
Shinwon kept going; he started hacking into the USA’s servers, countries in the European Union, he even began perusing North Korea’s encrypted files
Now,
not only is Shinwon on the National Intelligence Service’s top wanted list, he’s also been flagged by the FBI, MI6, and pretty much every other main central intelligence out there
everyone is after him
and it brought Hui the most joy to know that he’d been the one to capture Shinwon
Well, Wooseok captured him. But Hui had been the one to figure out where he was
Maybe that was a little bit of the reason he kept him alive at first
Shinwon was a little bit of a trophy
But then he grew on Hui
Shinwon had never had a family before
no one to profess his undying loyalty to, no one to put his hacking skills to good use for
and especially no one to tell him they were proud of him
until Hui
Hui was the first person who ever told Shinwon he was proud of him
it had been his third or fourth assignment:
hack into and shut down the security systems for the major Woori Bank headquarters so that Kino, Hui’s best theif, and a few others could break in and pull off one of the gang’s most public and dangerous heists of their careers
and when the entire ordeal had been finished and successful
Hui had patted Shinwon’s shoulder and told him he was proud
and Shinwon vowed from that moment on that his loyalties to Hui and the gang would never ever stray
he was in the gang for the long run
only death would pull him away from his brothers
