PHOTOFILTRE: Double Sided Background Wallpaper
Do you want to make a double sided wallpaper to fit directly on the sides, leaving your layout in the center like this?
Then follow these few easy steps.
STEP I: Put a layout up on your page. Make sure your layout has both the left and right tables visible. If they are not, add some blank ones (as seen in our example) just so we can get the measurements correct.
STEP II: After you’ve added the layout that you wish to use, go view your profile (with the layout now on it). Once you’re on your profile, take a screen-shot of your layout. (I tend to use the CTRL + PRT SCR buttons on my keyboard to take a screenshot, but whatever you use is fine.)
STEP III: If you used a screen-shot making program simply save your screen-shot, and open it on Photofiltre, now you can skip to Step IV. If you used the CTRL + PRT SCR option, go to your photofiltre program, and click on the ‘Edit’ button on the top toolbar. A drop-down menu should appear, simply take it down to paste as new image. Your screen-shot will thus appear on your photofiltre workspace.
STEP IV: Now that you have your screen-shot on your photofiltre workspace open, click on the ‘Paint Brush Tool’ located on the right hand side of your workspace. It should look something like this:
Once you’ve clicked on it, select a color for the mid section of your wallpaper; (the center). You can select any shade you’d like using the color tool.
Now, divert your attention back to the ‘Paint Brush Tool’ brush selection.
Select the bottom squared paint brush style, which looks like this:
Now, go to the radius, and select a big size. I usually use size 100, but feel free to choose whichever size you’re comfortable with.
STEP V: Using the brush tool begin to replace the screen-shot’s center (mid section of layout), with the color you pre-selected. Now I tend to meticulously paint 1 stroke at a time, meaning 1 square at a time so I can precisely get only the center area. Remember to paint the complete height of the screen-shot.
STEP VI: Now that you’ve painted the mid section, it’s time to paint the sides. Choosing a different color, we will repeat the previous step. Only this time painting the outer sides. Once you’re done painting it, it should look something like this:
Now, if all you wanted was the different colors you’re done. But if you’d like to add an image to it, continue to the following step.
STEP VII: Assuming that you already have the image(s) that you’d like to add to your wallpaper, now would be the time to open them onto your Photofiltre program. Right click on the image, and select copy.
Go back to your double-colored wallpaper now, and paste the copied image onto it.
STEP VIII: Now that your image is pasted atop of your wallpaper, position it to one of the outer sides.
If your layer is too big, or too small you can re-size it by right clicking over ‘Layer 1’ thumbnail located on your left-hand side, and selecting the ‘Transform free…’ option on the drop-down menu.
A pop-up box will then appear, on it simply move the ‘Scale’ arrow either left or right to increase or decrease the size of your image. Moving the arrow to the left decreases the size, while moving it right increases it. Once you have the desired size, click on the OK button.
STEP IX: If you feel that your image is just as it should be, and no further change is needed you’re done. But, if for example, your image is like mine you’ll need to erase a few portions of the image in order for it to blend well with the wallpaper itself. Using the ‘Eraser Tool’,
, begin removing the unwanted areas from your image. (A small rounded eraser tool is most recommended). Continue doing this, until you’ve removed all unwanted areas.
Repeat Steps VII - IX if you wish to add more than 1 image.
STEP X: Now that your image and wallpaper are blended perfectly you can save your wallpaper, and you’re done. Well with the wallpaper at least. There are still a few steps left to make sure your wallpaper fits perfectly on your layout. Since you’ve saved your wallpaper onto your computer, it’s time to save it onto an image hosting site. I prefer TinyPic merely because they do not re-size the larger images such as wallpapers. Photobucket in my experience has 99.9% of the time re-sized my wallpaper, thus making it look distorted on my page. After you’ve hosted your image, get the image URL or Direct Link and take it back to your site’s edit profile page.
On the code shown above, paste image URL on the highlighted portion. Once this is done, make sure that the background-position is set to either “bottom center” or “top center”. If your wallpaper has an image more on the top set it to “top center”, if it has an image more to the bottom set it to “bottom center”. If you’re using a tiled texture, or something repetitive use either or. Now that you’ve done this Save your changes and you’re done.
